Book Description

December 2000
“You can’t be too rich or too thin,” said Babe Paley who might have been both. David Champion thinks you can be too rich and too thin, and he sets out to prove it with a surprising new courtroom drama.

Was the top fashion designer Aldo diCarlo too rich? Were his models—including the one who is accused of his murder—too thin? Bomber’s son and investigator Tod sets out to prove the stunning supermodel Cheryl Darling is innocent of murdering her boss and former lover. Tod quickly falls for Cheryl, to his mother’s delight and Bomber’s chagrin. Since the evidence against her is overwhelming, Tod diligently unburies sordid secrets about the deceased’s past, trying to clear her. After fast-paced courtroom scenes, the clever denouement is heightened by ace-trial lawyer Bomber displaying a rare touch of humanity. Rich rewards await Bomber’s fans in this, his fifth exciting mystery.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

It is undisputed that Bomber Hanson (who has starred in several other titles in this witty series) is the best defense attorney in the business, which means that he is able to select only choice clients. When his hapless associate Tod--who also happens to be his son--falls for the beautiful supermodel Cheryl Darling, accused of murdering her ex-lover, Bomber can't believe that Tod wants to represent her. The younger Hanson is determined to help Cheryl even if it means risking his reputation to do so. As he has done with other cases, Tod delivers all the grunt work himself and then hands the reins to Bomber so that "the Big Enchilada" can put on another stellar courtroom performance--and get all the accolades. Father and son make a comical if disjointed duo, and Tod's first-person narrative mixes the perfect blend of irreverence and awe for his father. That, plus a twisted investigation that uncovers a Mafia connection, makes this latest in the Bomber Hanson series well worth the two-year wait. Mary Frances Wilkens

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, August 26, 2008
This review is from: Too Rich and Too Thin: A Bomber Hanson Mystery (Hardcover)
Do you love a good courtroom drama? Then Too Rich and Too Thin by David Champion is the book for you. The character development is strong yet subtle; the reader will not have guessed who is guilty until the end. The defense lawyer is sassy, not the type of person everyone would like, but someone I could imagine enjoying his company.
