Kajagoogoo is awesome and underrated,

i love this band is one of my favorite bands of all time. i was not around in the 80s infact when too shy came out i was not born until a year later. but i am a big punk and new wave fan. and i feel this cd is awesome. Thank to another new wave band duran duran member nick rhodes and Limahl of the kajagoogoo the world got to see this wild hair band on mtv. i love all the songs of kajagoogooo and Limahl. i love too shy of course who doesn't!? ooh to be ah had a unique danceable song to it. hang on now is a perfect song if u want a song for a slow dance. Turn ur back on me i love definatly its very danceable (even though i think the band turned ther back on Limahl because he was the reason they were famous to begin with along wit nick rhodes of duran duran) Limahls solo career was awesome too. he had more success than the band did after his departure. if u want classic new wave music get this cd.

Not bad for one-hit wonders.,

"Too Shy" and "Never Ending Story" are probably the only ones you know, but don't let that deter you. If you don't think synth-pop groups are sellouts just because they have a commercial sheen and can write good melodies, you'll enjoy a lot of these "hits" (to be fair, many of them really were hits in the UK). Plus, these guys don't sound as full of themselves as Duran Duran. Maybe that's what happens when everyone laughs at the name of your band. As to whether the real talent in the group belonged to Limahl or the other Kajagoogoos, this album makes a pretty good case for the latter.

Kajagoogoo did it without Limahl,
This review is from: Too Shy: Singles & More (Audio CD)
Great record. Kajagoogoo had some talent. Limahl's singing is like pouring Mrs. Buttersworth all over you. When Limahl left, that's where Kajagoogoo got interesting. The remaining members proved they had talent. The Lions Mouth and Turn Your Back on Me are fabulous. The Limahl singles are not as consistant. The NeverEnding Story and Inside to Outside are great songs, but the rest of his material is pure cheese (Ever hear the Colour all My Days cd?). I miss Kaja, Nick Beggs continues to work with some of music's best including Howard Jones and Belinda Carisile while Limahl sits there with the same bad hair wearing batery opperated shirts. Buy this record. The groove is there and I reccommend listening with headphones, there is a cool echo effect. Peace.

Only for the fans,

KAJAGOOGOO was one of my two favourite bands as a teen. Maybe because of this superb dance song: Too Shy, which I consider the best dance song by a British band in the 80's. I also consider Limahl's voice to be brilliant (though I don't really think very high of him as a person). The singles here are as good as they come (though the re-mixes are full of ...).Hang On Now is the definition of a simple but lovable pop song. The tracks on their 2nd LP are more powerful but Nick's voice is ....?!?! Shouldn't Do That says it all for itself.

Silly Name, but Amazing Talent,

They are actually a good group with an 80's sound. Think of it this way, if these songs were to be done by any of today's pop bands, the sales would be through the ceiling. In terms of musical arrangement, Kajagoogoo is just as good as they come. The lyrics either deal with fantasy theories or women, and the Kajagoogoo sound is personified by start-stop off-beats with spacey synths, all accompanied by Nick Begg's superb slap bass. Limahl has an excellent, if almost lady-like voice. Electronic drummer Jez Strode has a powerful, yet speedy percussion technique that gives the band an echo-like reverb feel. However, they really only have about 6 good songs,(Ergonomics, Monochromatic, Frayo, White Feathers, Too Shy, and Magician Man) most of them not included on this album.

Even though I bought it for "Too Shy," the rest of the CD is decent. Get a copy at a good price and check it out for yourself. Four stars!!

Too Shy has a rockin good base line, especially at the beginning. I would buy the CD just for that. Does anyone know if Nick Beggs is still playing?

OK, silly band name and the pretensiousness of Limahl aside (it's an anagram of his last name, Hamill), this band was pretty talented. They actually wrote their songs and performed them which is more than most "bands" seem able to do anymore. Great collection of 80's synth-pop and I highly recommend it to fans of Duran, Yaz, and Til Tuesday. Their debut album, "White Feathers", is a great release as well.

A decent collection of singles.,
This review is from: Too Shy: Singles & More (Audio CD)
There's some pretty decent material on this collection of tunes. I'm not very big on the tunes from Limahl's solo albums, but I do like a handful of the Kajagoogoo songs. "Too Shy" is a song that I remember from years ago (a well-written tune that happens to be fun and infectious). "Ooh to be Ah" is a song that I mostly like because of its cool synth intro. "Hang on Now" is another one of my favorites--a well-written song that can be listened to again and again. The extended mix of it on this collection is also good and an added bonus. The Kajagoogoo song I like with the other guy singing would be "The Lion's Mouth" (that tune's got some energy). Kajagoogoo has never been a favorite band of mine, but I still think that they released a handful of likeable songs.
