Editorial Reviews

The Dry Spells, a San Francisco-based female-led ensemble, creates a unique sound drawing from traditional folk ballads of lost loves, unimaginable sorrows, and nostalgia for a forgotten past, charged with an array of electric and acoustic instrumentation and intricate vocal harmonies. The band, made up of past and current members of SFs critically lauded retro-prog-psych transcendentalist outfit Citay, finds inspiration in the intersection of traditional folk music with electric instrumentation. On the band s debut album, Too Soon for Flowers, the Dry Spells prove gifted at songwriting as well as interpretation, presenting a song cycle that invites listeners to join them as they traverse an arboreal path less taken, to an uncertain yet revered destination. Along the way, there will be epic songs of deep-sea weddings, sirens, and gold rush tragedies, each illuminating a bit of the path ahead and offering another piece of the puzzle.

I found this album through Pandora...It's just wonderful, really witchy and woodsy and great, with a lot of themes drawn from traditional folk songs...but still somehow kind of breezy and modern.
