Editorial Reviews

Too Young To Be In Love is the first fully-realized Hunx and His Punx album, and the group's first for Hardly Art. It was recorded in New York City by Ivan Julian one of the founding members of inimitable NYC punk legends Richard Hell and the Voidoids. This record was made in the same studio that one of Hunx's idols, Ronnie Spector, once recorded in. While it is preceded by the Gay Singles LP (True Panther Sounds/Matador Records, 2009), a collection of hard-to-find and out-of-print 7" singles, Too Young To Be In Love is the first proper studio record from Hunx and His Punx.

Yes Virginia, there is a God in music land. If you have any idea what "cool" 60's 70's rock was... this is it. Remember Frank Zappa or the Trogs when they played loose & happy? It's only rock & roll, but I'd buy it. Thanks

Debut full-length album from San Francisco band who play charmingly lo-fi 50s/60s style pop
that brings back memories of all the Phil Spector influenced girl groups from that era (Crystals,
Ronettes, Shirelles, Shangri-Las, etc.) with a touch of Ramones-y punk. It's a hum-along boy-
meets-girl/boy meets boy, boy-loses-girl/boy loses boy pop-fest with tons of harmonies and
some driving, energetic drumming. Former members of Gravy Train!!!!, Shannon & the Clams.
Pure retro fun!

Yes, a world where this album gets only two reviews can only be stupid. This is the best album of 2011, hands down (with the Crystal Stilts one as a close second). My arguments? First, this album doesn't need my arguments, and I don't need ones either. What I assert here is a conclusion of multiple listens, it can't be argued, there's no point to argue. The fact is that it's rock music at its very best. And I couldn't care less that the man fronting the band, Hunx, shows his gay attitude all over the map, since the music he makes with his band is warm, enthusiastic, impassionated, free, beautiful, exciting, heartbreaking, moving, unforgettable, and sounds like a feast of youth and well-wasted life. The best we can do with this form of art or expression that we call rock'n'roll. The only blame I would concede is that it doesn't sound "new", though it is certainly original, but to this stage of the rock story, who cares, really? There are thousands of music niches today, all followed by their fans, so the world is basically made of people listening to music of any time, and it's perfect like that. No wave anymore, no hype, no bulls***. Each time I'm about to listen to a record, I don't expect anything less than vibrating to the music, and I know by exprience that every good music must be listened to again and again until you feel it's really good or not. Here, with Hunx and his Punx, the music rules. The Punx are essential to the spirit and the sound of the leader Hunx. They all play and sing with their heart, especially when this heart is heavy or frustrated and needs to be shouted. That's when the music gets into your body. That's how music stays alive and hot. I've read a lot of references about this band, especially girl groups, which does surprise me a bit.Read more ›

Freddie Mercury in a retro 50's pop punk band. Catchy as hell gay pop punk. Where Pansy Division failed by going over the top, this band should be the favorite band of the LGBT community and even for straight people who really dig early rock n roll with a twist.
