5.0 out of 5 stars Currently our son's favorite
I bought this because I wanted to try something from Barefoot Books, and I wasn't disappointed.

Rhyming books can be tough to read to toddlers, because the flow is lost at a slower pace. We were dubious about this book, but it's our 19 month old's favorite. It's got real animals that we see outside to find (owls, cows, dogs), a playground, and of course, the...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok
The pictures are great, but the story line is just so, so. If it weren't for the pictures, I'm not sure that my kids would even listen to the story.

I bought this because I wanted to try something from Barefoot Books, and I wasn't disappointed.

Rhyming books can be tough to read to toddlers, because the flow is lost at a slower pace. We were dubious about this book, but it's our 19 month old's favorite. It's got real animals that we see outside to find (owls, cows, dogs), a playground, and of course, the moon. The good children's books find a way to entertain children and adults (like the nested pictures in Goodnight Moon), and the language, artwork, and paper in this book make it a real treat for all of us.

Parents, longing for a bedtime reading book that is well-written and beautifully illustrated, will find "I Took The Moon for a Walk" a delight. Lyrically written, and with factual information on the moon at the end of the story makes this more than just your ordinary picture book. A great choice for a gift!

My son loves this book. He is 21 months and has pointed out the moon for over a year. If I ask him to grab a book, this is the book he brings me. The book is very well written and easy to read and my son enjoy the pictures very much. A classic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer joy, November 18, 2005

This review is from: I Took the Moon for a Walk (Hardcover)
My 19 month old daughter revels in this book. She knows exactly where it is kept, and insists on having it read to her at least a half dozen times a day. The pictures are lovely, full of little surprises that you catch each time you read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Librarian's Favorite, my two-year-old son's favorite too!, March 16, 2007
By
School Librarian (Missouri, United States) - See all my reviews
BEAUTIFUL PROSE, WONDERFUL PICTURES. My two-year-old son LOVES this book. The assonance (vowel rhyme within the words) in the prose makes it flow much like a poem but much more sophisticated than the popular, "Good Night Moon." The first line: "I took the moon for a walk last night, it followed along like a still summer kite, high in the sky through darkness and light, when I took the moon for a walk." Animals and people appear from page to page with wonderful landscapes that reward readers when closely examined. I am a librarian and this book should be on a list of BEST CHILDREN'S BOOKS, EVER.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bedtime book ever, January 29, 2012
I have read this almost every night for the past 5 years and even I am not sick of it. The rhyming is beautiful and I have noticed rhyming books, if done well, do not get on my nerves when I am begged to read something over and over. My five year old is somewhat over it but my two year old keeps asking for it. I think between 4 and 5 my older stopped wanting it, but for a 2-3 year old it is soooo sweet.
