I bought 5 different fire starter kits to test out with my son. This starter was the most difficult to use. The flint is too short to generate much of a spark and we were not able to get a fire started. It's a nice flashlight though.

Don't buy this. The mechanism to turn the light on never worked properly from the 1st day we bought it. Also, the magnetic feature is really poor. Within 1 week the light wasn't working at all and a week after that we'd lost the thing all together because, due to a weak magnet, it fell out of the holder. Don't buy this product...a waste of money.

Great idea but there is no striker to make a spark. I even tried my keys and it barely did anything. I added part of a hacksaw blade to my key chain and it works well. The led is really bright for its size. If it included a striker I would rate it 5 stars. Great to have a fire starter and led with you at all times.

Best part of the SLPB2 Tactical Knife,

I used to own the SLPB2 Tactical Knife, which had this item in the plastic holder on the back. I got the clip caught in my car door one day and ripped it off, and lost the knife shortly there after. No loss there, the knife was junk. However, I'm replacing this part because it was very handy. 1. The flashlight is super bright for the size. It takes four little button batteries, which cost about $12 to replace altogether. I had just replaced them after about 11 months of occasional use, so not too bad there, though it stinks that I had just replaced them before I lost the knife. I only had problems turning on the light when the batteries got weak. After replacing them, one small twist and it came on every time. 2. The fire starter is cake to use if you know what you're doing. The primary thing is you have to have a sharp metal edge to scrape with, and you need to scrape hard, not strike it or try to scrape fast. I roughed up the spine of my knife with a bench grinder to give me that sharp, unpolished edge to scrape with. Worked like a champ after that. Sent a cotton ball into a burst of flame in one scrape. 3. The unit is held in with an O-ring, not a magnet. Not sure what that other reviewer was talking about there, but in the 11 months I had my knife, the flashlight/fire starter *never* fell out of the little plastic holder. It's in there snug.

Great Gift for Husband or Father,

This was a gift to my husband for our anniversary. He's into survival stuff so I thought the flashlight/fire starter combo was great. It's a great size that works as the key chain or small enough that you can throw it in the glove box and pull it out when needed. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is due to the actual key ring that is attached. It's very small and very cheap - I would not put my keys on it. However, we just took a heavier key ring from an old key chain and swapped it out so no biggie. The husband loved it and thought it was a great gift/gadget so I'm happy.
