This is a nice little tool that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.

It has three functions:
* Knife blade (about 1 7/8") that locks into place. It is not spring loaded but does have an easy grip hole in the blade for handling.
* Flashlight is on and off only. It doesn't focus like a maglite but has a moderate LED beam that works under shallow water. The light is okay but not really strong enough to illuminate your way if walking. The tool comes with an extra set of batteries too.
* An emergency whistle. This is also moderate. I've heard plastic whistles that are much more shrill and loud but this will carry for some distance.

All three are pretty good for a small tool but all seem to be just about good enough. There is nothing that is extraordinary. I would have loved to see a pop out screwdriver (phillips and flathead) but I guess there is only so much you can put into one tool.

As for calling this a survival tool, I wouldn't want to bet my life on it but I would still be glad to have it in a pinch.

This Tool Logic SL1M Knife is useful I have found myself using it to open boxes and open envelopes mostly. It is light easy to open and to close, very sharp and seems to be keeping its edge quite well the flashlight is one of the brightest I have seen to date, is small and easy to use. My only complaint with it is that it is not always easy to put back into the knife, you have to line it up just right. I have not needed to use the whistle as yet, I have tried it, and it is very loud!
On the whole it is a good tool to keep on hand.

The first knife I got, the minute I put the batteries in the light flahed and bulb burnt. So I ordered a replacement. I got the light to go on, however the turning mechanism for on and off is just a matter of turning it to top part right to left, but in doing it losens the bulb and the top piece comes off. If only they had and off and on switch instead.

Very simply put, this is a nifty little tool that is great to carry with you when needed such as a hiking trip or even in the car for emergencies. The LED light is bright, the whistle is loud, and the blade is very sharp. But...there is a major design flaw for which I have to deduct two stars: there is locking mechanism that activates when the blade is extended. In order to fold the blade back in, one must hold the lock lever while folding the blade back in. The problem here is that due to the position of the lock lever, your finger HAS to go in the path that the blade will travel when folding. In other words, when folding the blade be VERY careful that the blade does not hit your finger. If you fold the blade slowly, then you should be fine. But just as another reviewer said, I do see this as an accident waiting to happen.

It took me a whole to find the whistle: it IS the whistle (just blow on the back).

The flashlight was firmly held, so I can't foresee loosing it.

The only think I didn't like the mechanism for unlocking the blade so it fold up again: Your finger has to go between the business end of the blade and the handle to push the lever so the blade can fold in. I don't know but it just seems like and accident waiting to happen...

This is a pretty handy little pocket knife. The blade is about 2 inches and so far has kept a good edge under moderate use. The flashlight is small, but useful enough for when you need it. It's certainly less usefull than say a Leatherman and a mini-mag lite, but then it takes up a lot less space.

The only negative I have is that it doesn't balance well in the hand. This is not something you really want for regular use.

On the other hand, it's a great emergency tool that takes up very little space in your pocket (you glove compartent should have something a little more substantial).

I received this item yesterday, and i'd like to leave my feedback on how great this tool looks like, it's really compact and very useful combo tool.

This knife/flashlight is a decent tool, although I prefer a separate knife and light. If you rely only on this it might be dangerous. You need a professional knife and flashlight for outdoor activities. If you use this is addition, it might be useful.

This is a small, minimalist tool that is handy for those that want to travel light. The plastic handle is very substantial, and everything is held in place well. It feels like it could stand a lot of abuse. It fits comfortably in the hand.

The flashlight is powered by one high intensity LED, which emits a blue/white light typical of LED's. The flashlight is turned on and off by twisting the barrel cap, similar to a Maglight. My flashlight came with a spare set of button cells, a nice touch.

The short, stubby blade feels like it could be abused a bit, and due to it's size, it is very rigid. The lock mechanism is a piece of spring metal that has to be pushed (with a modest amount of force) - it is incorporated in such a way that it is very unlikely that someone will accidentally close the blade while using it.

Finally, there is a whistle built into the handle of the tool, for either calling for help, or annoying fellow campers.

It's is a tool that I could see living permanently in someone's backpack.

This is such a handy little knife. It has all of the specifications of a real knife; blade with liner-lock to fold it back down, it's matte black, so that it does not catch the light (except for the blade part, made from some fancy stainless steel), has a belt clip and a loop to string it up on a lanyard or however you want to wear it. I think a main selling point of this knife is that it is so compact, but it's still pretty serious at just under 3 inches long. I like that the blade has an oval cutout to help open the blade.

The LED flashlight is also handy, it's a bit less high-tech than expected though; as to turn it on, you just turn the head of the flashlight until the light goes on. If you keep turning after the light has turned on, the lid will pop off in your hand. This is how you change the battery, so that part makes it pretty easy! And the manufacturer has provided us with a spare battery, a nice touch but makes me wonder how difficult it would be to try to find the same battery in a store.

The whistle is also a nice touch. It does not rattle like a typical whistle, which I really appreciate. Overall a really solid little tool that is going camping with me when I have to go in the springtime with my daughter's Girl Scout troop.
