For the survival enthusiast this is a must have,
This review is from: Tool Logic SVC1 Survival Card Tool With 1/2 Serrated Knife, Fire Starter, Whistle, Compass and Lens, Translucent Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm a college student who's been interested in emergency preparedness and wilderness survival for the past few years. I'm also majoring Emergency Management. I like to have as many of the essentials on me as I can at all time. For anyone who's interested in making their wallet into a formidable survival aid, I recommend this product. The knife is fantastic, and all other components (even the compass!) function flawlessly.

I purchased this item for my survival pack. I always make sure i can have a back up if needed, just in case. This item is more of a back up tool than anything. The knife is alright, but only as a back up in case you loose your other tools. It is small but effective in cutting rope and other tiny objects. They have a picture of this knife wrapped around a wooden handle as a make shift "spear". Again, if its the last tool you have left its better than nothing.
The lense is small enough for maybe starting a fire if you have nothing else. I should have opted for the light, but those batteries are too expensive to replace. The compass is faulty. You have to remove the knife to get a reading, even then its terribly small and partial accurate. This wont work if you need a quick reading! The less energy you have to use something in the wild, the better. The two items i feel make this semi-worth it would be the magnesium strip at the bottom and the whistle at the top. Both are important, the whistle can be used for attracting attention for help or warning an animal/scaring them away. These two things will work fine without backups but if your going into the wilderness, backups are always important. Over all the reason this items gets three stars is that its just ok. The items will work if need but as a survival tool it should not be depended on as a first resort. It may work better carrying it in urban settings just in case you get stuck in your car (seatbelt) or need that extra space saving tool for everyday.

This is my second card tool from Tool Logic. My first one was Card II with LED light option instead compass and lens.
Overall this is nice useful tool but compass is really piece of junk, dial has problem with rotating, it gets stuck very often. It wasn't even worth so send it back so I decided to keep it anyway.

I own 3 versions of Tool Logic cards, this one is my least favorite.
The knife is nice and sharp, and easy to hold for such a small blade. The fire starter works well, the whistle is reasonably loud and the tweezers are decent. Where this card fails is the insert with the compass and magnifying lens. The compass is imbalanced and and sits on the Eastern side of the dial. It will not balance no matter how I tilt it. It just spins and points in different directions. On a level surface, it sticks and randomly moves as I rotate the card. I even removed the entire insert from the card to get it away from all metal and it still didn't function. If I tried to use this thing to orient myself, I would be worse off than I would be without it. I ended up buying a separate button compass. The magnifying lens is too small and too distorted to be of any use in starting a fire and I'm not sure why it is necessary when the card already has a fully functional fire starter. Tool logic used to manufacture in Japan. This card is made in China, I suppose that explains the lack of QC. I recommend buying the SVC2 version with the red LED instead.Tool Logic SVC2 Survival Card Ii,Tool Card With Knife, Fire Starter, Whistle, Red Led Flashlight, Translucent Black It is made in Taiwan and having night vision friendly illumination is more useful than a randomly spinning compass. At least I can still use the other features of this card and the tin is useful for assembling a survival tin. But I wish I had bought 2 of the LED version instead.

I ordered the Tool Logic SVC2 (the one with the red light in it) for my stepson for Christmas and was really impressed with it, so I ordered the SVC1 for myself since I liked the idea of having a button compass on me at all times. When it arrived, the compass just stayed in one position. I removed the knife and tweezers thinking that the metal being so close was messing with the compass. It helped slightly but just enough to get the compass stuck in a different position. After thinking it over, I figured I would just deal with it and keep it anyways. That is until the fire starter just fell off when I removed the card from my wallet. I figure that it was probably caused due to the heat of it being in my back pocket in my wallet that may have caused the adhesive to fail. Not a huge deal; I could just reglue it, but since I wasn't satisfied with it from the start, I decided to return it and just order the SVC2 for myself. I tried everything to get the compass to point North - tilted it every possible angle, tapped it, shook it, etc. Other than the compass being useless, I like the product but would purchase the LED light option next time.

I have had to use this tool for the knife and the toothpick only. The whistle is loud if you want it to be. The compass is accurate if the knife is removed. The magnifying glass could start a fire if your material is dry. Great tool for the everyday and worst case scenario.

This survival card really helps you in an survival situation or as a backup tool.
Its design is rugged and durable, easy to carry and well designed to maximize utility. You can start a fire with the magnesium flint or magnifying glass. The knife is very sharp and could be used as spear The compass will give you basic orientation and location The whistle will help you to be localized without getting hoarse in cloudy places, remote, with dense vegetation or any place that limits your visibility. The other components could be useful in more conventional situations .. I recommend in addition to any survival or emergency kit for those who like to go fishing, camping, hunting, etc. No doubt it would be a very useful and appropriate gift.

Tool Logic Survival Card,

Are generally satisfied with this product. But it is not the same quality as Victorinox swiss card. Beginning with the bad. The text on the card worn away at once. The compass is, unfortunately, almost useless. Likewise the magnifying glass works bad. But the rest of the card works much better. The knife is small butt really useful. The fire steel works fine, The Whistle is really good. Tweezers and toothpicks are of acceptable quality. If I were to buy it again, I would choose that model that instead of the compass and magnifying glass has a small LED flashlight.

This is my second SVC card, formerly purchased the SVCII and one version of the SVCI, but this last purchase I noticed the QC is running low, as the blade looks a little worn and the edges are rounded instead of sharp. Comparing the blade to the SVCII's I can tell the workmanship suffered greatly. And to do some justice, the price dropped noticeably around 16% in the last few months so I guess you get what you pay for...
