The chisels I was sent DO NOT match the description or the pictures on the web site. This is the third time this has been done to me. I hate the new handle design. It is DECEPTIVE for amazon to use the the old (better) handle description and pictures to sell the new (cheaper, inferior) chisels. Amazon should update the photos and description or SEND ME WHAT YOU SOLD ME

Due to the very small cross section of this chisel, the alloy and temper of the steel will be critical. This size sharpens very easily as there is so little material to have to remove to get the razor edge. Its small size is harder to support by feel and I would recommend a clamp on honing guide for stability. I used this to clean up the ends of a few 1/4 wide mortices and was quite happy with the razor edge and its durability. Since this size is typically reserved for very small tenon and groove cleanup, this chisel should perform as well as the Marples chisel. Even if more frequent sharpening is required, it is a matter of seconds for this size.

This is a handy, but difficult to find size, wood chisel. Irwin bought the Marples brand name from a renowned Sheffield, England toolmaker. This chisel is made in China but is nicely made and very sharp right out of the package. Having such a small blade it is a bit unbalanced, but the handle shape makes it easily controlled.

This review is based on price, can't beat it. This chisel will hold a decent edge, the handle is very durable.

Update, while this particular chisel holds an edge decently, I've since purchased more of the same brand and they DO NOT hold an edge at all. You might get lucky but it's a gamble. Either way, with chisel this thin you rarely need a razor edge, just something thin enough to fit where other chisels can't.

Although the item appeared well made and very sharp. I had used it for about one month working on chiseling out areas i cut for dovetails. Come to find out that after using this item for several hours the tip broke in half! This has never happened to me before. However, i had been using 1/4" chisel so a really cannot compare it to this 1/8" chisel. I am disappointed though because i was looking forward to make smaller dovetails and was eager to try this particular tool. I was using a rubber mallet and taking small short blows. Enough just to take the wood down towards the bottom of the tails.
I am going to purchase another one and hopefully it was just a bad tool.

These chisels are a great buy for the money. They aren't top tier, but they cost just a little more than Stanley's cheap contractor grade chisels. You can easily spend four times as much money and get chisels that are only marginally better.

This is a very nice chisel that holds its edge through lots of regular use. I use it all the time while building guitars and it has never let me down. I would be happy to recommend this to family and friends.
