My wife bought this for me as a present last year, and I just didn't have a chance to use it until recently. We used it to hang a few dozen photographs and captions on a gallery wall, and it performed well. Though I was dubious that the sticky, double sided strips that came with the level would be effective, they held the thing on the wall all day and left no damage despite frequent application and removal. I have now used it on a vinyl wallpaper surface and on painted drywall, with equally good results. One thing to note - when they say this model only projects a beam for 15', they aren't kidding. The beam is also not as bright as I would have liked it to be, but hey - when a tool this useful costs under $20...

I admit, I didn't have high expectations for this tool. I'm a general building contractor, so I own a laser level that cost several thousand dollars. I also own a thousand-dollar-plus Hilti laser measuring device and several other extremely accurate and expensive lasers. . . so I'm used to high-end laser tools. But I took a chance at this $15 laser tool when I needed to hang some curtains for my wife, and I was incredibly surprised at how well it works. A lot of these laser line tools don't have a wide enough or strong enough beam. But this one has a nice broad pattern, so if there's an irregularity in the all it will pick it up farther away. As with any laser at any cost, it works best in low light, so pull the curtains when you use it, and rely on your interior lights.
As for the level, it's got a simple bubble level and is only supposed to be accurate to +/- 3/8" in 15'. But I shot it down a four foot level and it was as accurate as the level. . . In other words, probably to 1/32" in 4', which is much better than advertised.

If I need something done absolutely perfect, if I'm hanging cabinets or laying out an addition, I'll use the professional laser, which means getting out the tripod and charging the tool, etc. That's a lot of work and effort, and isn't justified if just to hang some curtains, or pictures, for which this tool does a fantastic job. Considering the $15 price tag it's a very handy and useful tool to have in the drawer for around-the-house use.

I think some of the reviews here are clearly from people who have no real reference point as to just what value is built into this very inexpensive tool. If you're just doing little projects I highly recommend it. Sure, it's probably going to wear out if it gets heavy use.

The first time I put it up on the wall it didn't stick well enough and plummeted down to the floor. Second time around, I pressed it a little harder on the wall and it stuck. Unfortunately, when I was finished, it took a nice big chunk of paint off with it.

The claim that 3M Command Strips (included) leave surfaces unscathed when removed, didnt work for me. Not on plaster board. It was attached for only 10 min and when removed, it took a piece of the paint and board with it. Not recommended.

Works well - helps you to get a high level of alignment accuracy, especially on vertical surfaces using 3M command mounting tape.

Bought this on clearance through Amazon and think it'll work out just fine for minimal use. Design isn't quality, but considering I only paid $2 for it, I'm not going to complain. This can serve it's purpose for a guide, just as long as you set it up correctly and don't rely on it to do work for you.

Use caution when using this product...First time I used this level caused damage to my wall....Adhesive strips that hold this level in place while in use....ripped out large hunk of plaster when removed...would have preferred a level that used pins to hold in place while in use..

Save your money. Besides the red stream of light to level this tool is more aggravating than it is worth. It doesn't stick well at all. I ended up using a ruler to hand up my pictures on the wall. It's not a seller issue, its the product...horrible.
