These are excellent wire cutters. They have a soft, comfortable grip and do just what wire cutters should do: cut wires. The description says they are 10-24 AWG, but according the the box, they're actually 10-20 AWG (you can tell from the picture too). They are not insulated, so you shouldn't cut live wires with these, but that's not a big deal most of the time. Overall, a good tool.

There's an old saying about having 'the right tools for the job.' The statement could not be any more correct. After years of trying to strip wires using: tools with a built in wire stripper as a second thought, scissors, razor blades and knives, this tool was like the holy grail. (I remember burning my fingers in college using a lighter, to melt the insulation off.) The stripping blades are super sharp, angle cut. With a little practice, you'll look like a pro in no time. I flew through the project of connecting my new car stereo. The strippers also have a very sharp cutter, crimping mechanism and small pliers on the tip. I combined this tool with some crimp caps (available very cheap) to make splicing wires, a snap. My car stereo install was not only quick and easy, but looks 100% professional. I was so pleased that I went back and redid several wiring jobs I had done years ago on other areas of my car. It took me no time to fix several of these projects. No more nasty, sticky electrical tape wrapped around wires with questionable connectivity. No more cutting my fingers or ruining wire, trying to strip it incorrectly. No more ugly heat shrink tubing.

These strippers are very solidly built. The metal is durable and will last many, many years. I highly recommend getting the more compact 7" tool, as most projects will require you to work in smaller, cramped spaces. It has a great locking mechanism, so you can even put them in a pocket, without risking injury or damaging your clothing. The tool also comes nicely oiled. The handles are rubberized and easy and comfortable to grip. I cannot wait to use these on more projects at home and at work. This is an invaluable tool for anyone doing any capacity of wiring.

Highly recommended to buy with this tool: crimp caps and zip ties.

I bought this item over a week ago. I needed it for stripping fine wires used in electric guitars. The description in the technical details of Amazon's ad says "6 Stripping stations for 10-24 AWG". That appealed to me, because 24 AWG wires are very thin, and I'd be covered for any wires I might need to strip. I know I'll need to strip 22 AWG wires (bigger numbers are thinner wires). The tool arrived, I removed it from the package, and saw right away that it only goes down to 20 AWG. I looked at the product packaging. It reads "10-20 AWG". So, I went back to the Amazon ad to confirm that what I thought I'd read in the ad was what I'd actually read. It was. I then zoomed in on the photo in the Amazon ad, and you can see in the photo (after zooming in) that it only goes down to 20 AWG. I was completely dissatisfied the whole situation. I followed the process to return the tool, and Amazon told me it's on the house - just keep it. Fine. I ordered a different tool that goes down to 22 AWG. Today, I decided to check to see if Amazon had corrected their ad. After all, it's been over a week. The ad is NOT corrected. It still says "6 Stripping stations for 10-24 AWG". Very unhappy, I decided to leave this review to inform people about the error in the ad. So, I scrolled down to the reviews section, and what is the first review I see? A review from >>>>>2007<<<<< that describes how the technical details are incorrect because the tool actually only goes down to 20 AWG!!! WT Expletive!!!! Amazon has allowed this ad to be incorrect for 4 years???!!!! That's utterly ridiculous. I've always thought the great thing about Amazon is the ability to research so many products side by side from the comfort of my recliner. This whole advantage collapses, though, if the information I'm reading is incorrect. I understand that with so many products, there are bound to be errors, but it shouldn't take over 4 years to change a "4" to a "0".

The crimper sets this tool miles ahead. It caves the fitting onto itself, so that the wire never comes back out. The spring is in the way, but it is easily removeable. The cutting blade cuts through most wires easily, but be careful cutting through fittings; it will get damaged. The thumb lock is naturally placed, making securing it simple.

I've always been strangely frugal when it comes to purchasing a wire stripping tool. For some reason I've just never had a set floating around when I needed it, and have never considered purchasing one because I always had scissors. It's pretty strange to think about, considering that they're relatively inexpensive. If you're like me then you've probably gone down that road, too. However, that road is one that is time consuming and not exactly a perfect science. After getting these I stripped all of the wires for my 5.1 surround sound system in about 10 minutes. It was fast, easy, and above all else, very comfortable when compared with the awkward and sometimes painful scissors method. I'm also pleasantly surprised by how solid this wire stripping tool is. It's not like the ones that I had used previously with one little notch that you have to manually make the wire gauge fit by applying just enough pressure. This tool doesn't feel like it will warp after you've been using it awhile, either (No promises, though. I have only had to use it the one time). I'm a big fan of the time savings that this provided me at a fairly low cost (about $10). You may not use these often, but it will make a pain in the @#$ time consuming job a lot easier.
