"Toonces and Friends" Short On Toonces, February 25, 2008
This review is from: Toonces and Friends (The Best of Saturday Night Live) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Toonces and Friends is a big disappointment. I wandered why it wasn't available on DVD, it's because the entire program is only 24 minutes in length. That wouldn't be an issue if those 24 minutes were filled with Toonces sketches from SNL. However, Toonces is in only 3 of the 11 sketches on the videotape... what a waste! The remaining 8 sketches are comprised of material from the late 80's when SNL wasn't very funny.
Toonces was in 10 Saturday Night Live episodes between May 20, 1989 - April 17. The videotape doesn't include 3 of the best Toonces sketches: Toonces & Martians w/ John Goodman, Driving Miss Daisy w/ Quincy Jones, and the funniest of all... Urban Toonces w/ Debra Winger. Don't buy this VHS unless you can get it for $5 or less.

Absolutely classic..., May 2, 2003
This review is from: Toonces and Friends (The Best of Saturday Night Live) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Remember when Saturday Night Live was funny? Well, if you don't remember Toonces, then you missed out on some pretty hilarious skits. This particular video is entitled "Toonces and Friends," which kind of urks me because I wanted more of Toonces and less of his friends. However, most of the skits are funny, such as Coach Dobbs, Scruffy the Rat and Abe Lincoln and His Time Machine. The only one I didn't find funny at all was that bizarre Fugitive Couple skit. It was dumb. As Steve Martin says, Toonces can drive... just not very well. In every Toonces skit, he winds up driving himself and his passengers over a cliff. Aside from these moments, a comedic gem is when we see Toonces stuck on the hubcap of a moving car. This is a pretty hard to find tape, so if you can find it, get it. Just know it's of low quality as it was recorded in EP mode (see how much better DVD is?)

Very funny, January 17, 2002

I love this type of comedy. The type of goofy ideas and cheap shots that were used in the Toonces skits. We lost our copy, and it's worth buying a new one to replace it.
