Product Description

Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 "The New York Studio Legacy Series" is a complete overhaul of the original dfh Superior engine. The Toontrack team made painstakingly sure not to lose any of the sound quality, attention to detail, and musicality of their popular drum sampler.Superior Drummer 2.0 has been redeveloped for optimized use with e-drums with more effective use of sample layers and much improved loading times. It includes custom MIDI played by Nir Z accessed through its new customized MIDI engine and arranger, EZplayer Pro, and has standalone capacity through Toontrack solo. Premium UK-based software developer Sonalksis has outfitted the Superior 2.0 with a 5-band EQ, high and low pass filter, compressor, gate, and transient designer filters. The interface is reminiscent of EZdrummer with its simple handling and layout but gives the user layer upon layer of in-depth features to create the ultimate drum track.Superior Drummer 2.0's samples were recorded by Pat Thrall, Neil Dorfsman, and Nir Z at Hit Factory, Avatar Studios, and Allaire studios, NY. The three have worked with artists as diverse as Meatloaf, Celine Dion, Nick Lachey, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Beyonce, Björk, Kiss, Joss Stone, Genesis, John Mayer, and Chris Cornell.

5.0 out of 5 stars RESCUED FROM BFD! February 15, 2011
I can't believe it, I finally have a Percussion virtual instrument that works in every conceivable way as it should. I own the following: RMX, BFD, Steven Slate Drums, and Strike, none of them can hold a candle overall to Superior 2.0 or even EZDrummer ToonTracks entry level Virtual Drum instrument. Thing's that used to take me days to do in BFD now take me a mere 2 hours. Complected drum parts in odd time signatures are not only very human sounding but the samples themselves are absolutely beautiful sounding. Within the first Hour of owning EZDrums and one of the expansions I had made the decision to upgrade to Superior 2.0.

Why is ToonTrack is so much better then the competition? Four things! One, the software is sold like a rock. I have yet to have any type of bug issue period, not one! It works flawlessly on both my Pro Tools and Logic Studio DAW's. I can't say the same about BFD, the difference is massive.

Two; The MIDI file names, category's, naming conventions and overall nomenclature are very logically created and very easy to use. It's quick and painless to find what you want. You know whats on the up beat/downbeat where what and who swings how and even what instrumentation's are being used in the kit by the name of the file. If you are a writer who is conceptualizing an idea that's just the cat's Meow! Go try and find a funk beat in BFD, the name with imply how funkifized it is but it wont tell you a thing about what instruments are used or where they land in the beat structure. Real Genius those guys at FX.

Three; Tech Support! They have it and it's done very well. I've sent one email and placed two forum posts, both were answered in less then 24 hours one in less then 4 hours. The forum is staffed by Employees as well as supper users like a real software companies forum should be.

Four; The software is far more intuitive and simple to use then anything I've seen or used including the aforementioned. Make no mistake it has lot's of powerful features and the sounds are top notch, but it's easy to use and the interface very logically laid out. Having two complete independent mixers is really nice too.

I have nothing but good things to say about ToonTrack and their products and I highly recommend them. I have worked in information systems for over 20 years specializing in Digital Media, Multimedia and am Pro Tools and Logic Certified. I hope this review was helpful to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product May 6, 2009
Superior 2.0 is a great sounding and functioning product. It's a little more complicated than EZdrummer (which they'll tell you) but still fairly easy once you sit down with it. (There are some good tutorials on youtube that help a lot.) The only reason it's more complicated is because it allows you to tweak your sounds in so many ways! That's a good thing! You can keep it pretty simple or really dig into deeper sound design. The onboard effects are nice (but I usually use my host effects). It also comes with EZplayer pro which takes things to another level for compositions. (look on their website for it's tutorial). Overall I rate this a 5. The sounds are great. The mixing capabilities are infinite. You can mix and match other toontrack drum packs. Plus you can set the level of sampling and bit rates to ease up on your cpu, if necessary. The mixer presets (example projects) are great starting points to audition various room and "produced" drum sounds. Remember, these are real, professionally recorded drum hits with professional mics, overheads, bleed (adjustable) in 24 bit so they sound excellent and real...because they are real.

5.0 out of 5 stars my go to drums November 6, 2011
the most striking thing about sd2 is the sounds, the cymbals, the tails on the cymbals, the air in the toms, all very real, and way better than my aging v-drum sounds, there are many ways to use sd2, works great in pro tools with an e-kit, like my v-drums, or use midi beats with drag and drop ease in pro tools, great for getting ideas down fast, another great thing is just like re-amping guitar you can change the whole drum kit, or parts of it afterwords to get it to sit in the mix, ajust mic bleeds, room mics, and much more... just an outstanding drum program.
I have the lost studio sdx expansion pack, and just ordered music city, metal foundry, and custom and vintage, believe me before shelling out for 3 more sdx packs. sd2 was ran through its paces, bfd and addictive drums came up short, and sd2 is my go to for drums sounds in my daw for writing music....
you can also get producer presets, great for leaning how to get things to sit in the mix, and midi files...if you drag and drop drum tracks.

one caveat, the expanse and power in sd2 and the expansion sets is vast, want an super simple set up? may not be for you, want drum sounds that can fool even an experienced sound engineer ? this is the program, after 6 months deep into it, I am still learning, my drum sounds are killer.

as far a customer service I have not needed it found answers to my questions on there active support boards.

may sound like a toontrack fanboy here, thats not my intent, this program works, sounds great and I find the more I use it, and the deeper I get into it the more I like it. if that were not the case, I would be telling it like it is, as I do with the pro tools community, and avids poor customer service and corporate greed, but thats for another topic.

highly recommended.
