5.0 out of 5 stars classic classic, January 12, 2005
This review is from: Tootsie (Audio CD)
Why is this soundtrack so hard to procure? "Tootsie" is a genuine classic, Hoffman was robbed of a well-deserved Oscar and the entire film wraps up the eightes as a decade with women vs. men, role-playing, role stereotypes, and the gradual assertion of women - most of all the respect towards women - which Michael Dorsey can only come to after he has lived as one. Now onto the music: if any lyric can make you cry, Stephen Bishop's "It Might Be You" does. If you're older and unmarried without children, it is a wistful and indellible song. "Tootsie" is only heard partially in the film as Michael dresses as Dorothy for the first morning's taping at Southwest General. What a blast! Sure, some of the instrumental score is a bit dated, but if we date everything, we'll never have any classics to fall back upon. "An Actor's Life" sums it all up. If you're a Tootsie devotee', buy the soundtrack. Worth every penny.
