5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding enjoyable set!
This is a super set of 10 classical music cds. Each one covers the top ten pieces from a different time period. Even if you don't know most of the names of the pieces, you will probably recognize most of the music. Each piece is rendered by a different orchestra such as the London Philharmonic for "The Marriage of Figaro" to the Vienna Mozart Ensemble and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Quality, But a Little Rushed
I have to agree that this is a good collection of music for the money, especially if you are a novice at the Classics like me. Each disc covers a 40 year period with an hour of music and a little bit of history in the cover slip. However, there were some oddities that made me question the quality of this product. This is a super set of 10 classical music cds. Each one covers the top ten pieces from a different time period. Even if you don't know most of the names of the pieces, you will probably recognize most of the music. Each piece is rendered by a different orchestra such as the London Philharmonic for "The Marriage of Figaro" to the Vienna Mozart Ensemble and many others. This is a basic beginner set for people who own no other Classical or who can't decide or identify which of 'that music' they like. You should definitely try it. It's a great price for a very good collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good beginning collection at an affordable price, July 18, 2000
This review is from: The Top 100 Masterpieces of Classical Music (Box Set) (Audio CD)
These are the familiar songs that you (well, at least I) never tire of hearing.

Sure, I think of a Bugs Bunny cartoon when I hear Rossini's "Barber of Seville", or the old TV show "The Paper Chase", whenever I hear "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik", but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate classical music.

All the "big boys" are here, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, etc., as well as some familiar songs by perhaps less familiar composers, such as "Pomp and Circumstance" (Elgar)and "Flight of the Bumblebee" (Rimsky-Korsakov)

A bargain at only 2 bucks a CD, this set will provide you with many pleasant hours of delightful music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great "get acquainted" collection, January 29, 2000
This review is from: The Top 100 Masterpieces of Classical Music (Box Set) (Audio CD)
To those who are new to classical music or anyone desiring to become better acquainted with the classics, this is a perfect collection. The most memorable melodies of the greatest classical composers are included. This collection is perfect for children or adults. I have used Top Masterpieces in elementary classrooms as well as in music workshops for adults. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is the best collection of classic masterpieces., November 28, 2007
This review is from: The Top 100 Masterpieces of Classical Music (Box Set) (Audio CD)
I had this collection and lost it in 2000 when moving to a new house. I took me a time to find it but after having it again I can say it is the most valuable selection of classic music, it is truly the 100 top masterpieces and the sound is excellent.

Bought this CD to calm and relax myself after a hard days work. CD seems like a great collection to me. It's got a lot of songs that I recognize and some that I don't. It does sooth me a bit after the the many stresses of everyday life.

I'm not really a classical music nut like "Frasier Crane" so I'm not sure how much merit I can bring to the table with this review. But I think it's great..!!!

If you enjoy classical music, then this is the set for you. It includes the best pieces from all periods of Western Classical music. I played many of these pieces in my high school orchestra. It is nice hearing them all in one collection.

I recently received this set as a gift, and I can't describe how excited I was. It's a great little set, and the pieces included are varied. I loved the inclusion of the Hallelujah Chorus (my family, however, is less enthused due to my excitedly singing along) but missed such pieces as the 1812 Overture and Flight of the Valkyrie. I am not a person learned in music, I am more familiar with the commonly-played, recognizable by the masses music, but the opportunity to become familiar with different pieces here is truly a gift.

I can't comment yet on the music, but the set of 10 disks was missing the actual CD's for Volume 1, 4, and 8. I think quality control isn't very tight with this outfit. Will update my review if they resolve this issue expeditiously.

UPDATE: Very fast service to resolve the issue. Music is great and I appreciate the help!

I have to agree that this is a good collection of music for the money, especially if you are a novice at the Classics like me. Each disc covers a 40 year period with an hour of music and a little bit of history in the cover slip. However, there were some oddities that made me question the quality of this product. First, a few of the songs seemed like the conductor was hurrying them along so the songs on a disc would add up to exactly one hour -- where's the love? I know I'm a novice, but there are just some songs that are so famous that you can pretty easily tell when they are being butchered or compressed. Second, the quality of the product was suspect. Some of the discs looked like they were manufactured in 1990 and some in 1994. The older ones just had the titles on the discs and the newer ones had a screen-printed color change with no information. They couldn't even use the same type of Jewel Case throughout the collection. In total, it's good for beginners and the money, but not much else.
