Editorial Reviews

Taste the culinary power on the seventh season of the No. 1 food show on cable, Bravo's Emmy® and James Beard Award-winning series TOP CHEF: D.C. The 17 new chef'testants come face to face in the nation's capitol for the ultimate power play that will determine just who has the chops to become TOP CHEF.

This season captures the varied tastes of Washington D.C. and features appearances by some of the town's top names in politics, aerospace, and even the CIA. The challenges are some of the most creative and inventive yet as the chefs take over the concession stands at the Nationals stadium, go inside the CIA's closely guarded headquarters, and literally receive out of this world direction from a NASA astronaut orbiting Earth.

Returning to the kitchen, author, actress and host Padma Lakshmi presides over the judge's table alongside head judge Tom Colicchio, James Beard Award-winner and chef/owner of Craft Restaurants, and judge Gail Simmons of Food & Wine magazine. Joining the series as a regular guest judge is award-winning chef Eric Ripert. Hail to the Chef with this 4-disc set including all 14 episodes from Season 7, plus the Reunion Special, bonus clips and the top recipe recreation!

Customer Reviews

We have really enjoyed top chef, particularly season 6.

The people were boring, or jerks, or just plain mean and I found myself falling asleep during more than one episode.
Aeryn Kelly
This is such a great show that allows the contestants to showcase their skills in challenge after challenge.

I'm sorry, I really need to intervene here. I have become a big fan of the show and the reviews thus far do not reflect (in my opinion) what this season was about. I admit that season 6 was more enjoyable, people were friendlier to each other, and the Voltaggio bros. stole the show. But this season was very good; I think that there was much more of a balance between individual talents and this is an asset since it keeps the suspense going. People had more of a subtle humor to them (Ed and Angelo were quite sarcastic with each other, yet not in an offensive manner). The finale in Singapore was very interesting to watch (in particular Padma's reaction to Ed's banana fritters when she takes the first bite). Yes, people were meaner to each other in general, I will agree with that. I do also try hard to understand where they are coming from; in competitive fields, you do have to become your biggest cheerleader, and narcissism is a shield which, when stripped, unveils tremendous insecurity. I think people need to try to come across as larger than life because they're terrified of their own low self-esteem. People are people, in the end, and suffering is something universal, thus I would hope empathy for the tense situation these chefs were in would seep through somewhere along the way.

I just purchased the streaming version of Season 7 and 9 in HD and the quality IS NOT HD.
It's worse than SD, standard definition almost. The DVDs are the same price and at least
you actually get something and the quality should be better. You can stop it, start it, keep
track in the chapters and titles and instantly skip ahead or back. The option to buy it in SD
for $24.99 or HD for $29.99 is misleading because the quality is bad in both and not even
DVD or broadcast HD quality.

"Foreign Affairs" was one of the better episodes of the recent Top Chef season 7 in Washington DC. It provided some extra spice with its emphasis on exotic cuisine. Marcus Samuelsson, author of the great cookbook The Soul of a New Cuisine: A Discovery of the Foods and Flavors of Africa and recent winner of Top Chef Masters, served as a guest judge when the contestants tried their hand at Ethiopian cuisine. Samuelsson taught them there's more to African cuisine than bush meat and porridges, that it has a depth of flavor. The elimination challenge involved cooking for numerous ambassadors from France, China, Brazil, and other countries. All in all, a fun and educational episode!

This is just my take on the pea puree incident and a reply to another review .They went over the Pea puree incident on the reunion show they coulndn't find anything on camera to support or deny , but alex had bought english peas the day before which begs the question why the hell would he steal someones puree when he could just make his own, and Kennys statement that he couldnt do a puree in a short amount of time is ridiculous purees are made in just about every quickfire in 20 to 30 min including Kenny on the first episode. Ed on the other hand was rushing around the day before like a headless chicken having other people help him put his stuff up (which he did a few other times ) so he was ultimately responsible for his puree and in my judgemnt lost it the day before by asking for everyone to help. ED and Tiffanys paranoia about the whole thing just goes to show what non-thinking judgemental jerks they are , and in restraunt wars Alex was supposed to concieve and execute a dish but his own teamates didnt trust him or whatever and changed things up a bit but he was ultimately responsible for that dish and if it had sucked would have went down for it , and if kenny and kevin didnt like the way it went down they shoud have made better dishes and won restraunt wars period .
