Product Description

TOP CHEF MASTERS pits 24 world-renowned chefs against each other to see how well they fare in the tried and true format of Top Chef.

Hosted by acclaimed food journalist and TV personality Kelly Choi, each episode of TOP CHEF MASTERS holds two challenges for the chefs. The first is a twist on the classic Top Chef Quickfire Challenge which tests their basic abilities, and the second is an elimination challenge designed to test the versatility and invention of the chefs as they take on unique culinary trials such as working with unusual and exotic foods or catering for demanding clients. Week after week Gael Greene, renowned restaurant critic, journalist Jay Rayner and culinary expert James Oseland preside over the Critics' Table with an exciting array of guest judges to determine who has what it takes to be crowned TOP CHEF MASTER.

I really enjoy the Top Chef series for the ideas, techniques, and creativity. You add to your cullinary education and get some entertainment in one place. I love the Masters series even more, because there is more cooking, more skill, less drama. The regular Top Chef series, while enjoyable, has been going the way of the myriad of other "reality" shows--too much drama, too much fighting, and too much mugging for the cameras. The masters series has some extras, some fun, some crazy moments, but they add to the show and do not detract from the cooking--which is supposed to be the point of the show. They also picked some great chefs to compete, like Hubert Keller who is a cullinary Yoda with a french accent, and Jonathan Waxman who is like Jerry Garcia with a chef knife. Great show.

First of all I am a 'foodie' this does not mean I am a great cook or chef. Enjoy watching Food Network and Bravo's Top Chef . The competition between the Top Chefs Masters is entirely different than that of the Top Chefs. It appears that the Masters - or professionals - hold each other in higher regard and would not be subversive to win the competition. I cannot wait until Season 2 is released on DVD. We are such fanatics - we have kept weekly scorecards with winners and those who have been eliminated and it is shared among our group.

Also, for Christmas gifts I have received the Quickfire Cookbook and a Top Chef coat.

Having been a fan of the series, Top Chef Masters was a brilliant addition!
I had watched the series on TV when it first aired and was elated to see it available on Amazon that I had to have it.
In addition to being geared for great charities and causes, I loved seeing how Master Chefs handled previous quick fire challenges and critiques.
This will always be one of my favorite shows.

"Top Chef Masters" is the spin-off of Bravo's immensely successful Top Chef The Cookbook Instead of Padma Lakshmi, there's Lindsay Cho (tho the former appears in the finale) Instead of pitting newbie chefs against each other, this version has competition of experienced chefs. The show has a confusing layout. Instead of starting out with 24 chefs in the initial episode... it starts with 4. This episode introduces Hubert Keller, the Alsatian chef who opened Fleur de Lys in San Francisco, and cooked at the White House.

Hubert Keller is a Gallic Gandalf. He makes magic in the kitchen. His other competitors are less well-known. The chefs are competing for various charities, which is admirable. "Top Chef Masters" is guilty pleasure fun!

This was just okay in comparison to Top Chef. I didn't like the format of the individual 4-chef challenges with the top chefs competing in the end. I would have preferred the same format as Top Chef, with all chefs competing in each challenge to the bitter end. I think that is more fair & entertaining. Overall, I did enjoy the series. I wish all Top Chef & Top Chef Masters series were available on DVD. I don't have a laptop, I-pad, or streaming capability & don't feel like watching episodes at my computer desk.

Are featured in this season: Chef Elizabeth Falkner & Chef Suzanne Tracht. Especially in episode 2 when they first see each other. I have to love the fact that Chef Tracht looked like she was totally checking out Chef Falkner. (I don't blame her...I'd be checking out Chef Falkner too if I was her.)

My daughter and I love watching Top Chef Masters. As a series, I would give it 5 stars. One of the reasons for this is that there are so many high quality people with so much talent and integrity. In this episode, however, I was really really disappointed in Jonathan Waxman. For the elmination round, each chef chose a knife with the name of another chef on it, and they were responsible for shopping and choosing ingredients for that chef to prepare a dish. In every case other than Jonathan Waxman, the top chefs chose exactly what they knew their competitors would most want as their ingredients, (because they all know what is the specialty of the others). However, In chef Waxman's case, he "denied" his competitor with his specialty, which was seafood. I thought that showed a lack of class and even a certain amount of sabotage. (Ironically, earlier in the show, he was the chef quoted as saying there was no such thing as sabotage among master chefs). Compare this to the sentiment expressed by chef Roy Yamaguchi, that he picked exactly what his chosen chef wanted because you have to "set people up for success."
It seemed to me that Waxman was scared that the seafood chef might get a higher score than he would, since the seafood chef (Michael Cimarusti) had won the quickfire.
In the entire series, I have had great admiration for most all the chefs... except in this episode, I really ended up disliking and losing all respect for Jonathan Waxman.
