Having just moved to the New York Metro area I thought this book, along with friends' recommendations, would really help my family find the doctors we needed. This is and isn't the case. When I purchased the book I thought there would be more to each description for the doctors or groups mentioned that would help me get a sense of the caregivers. Each listing is a very simple grid of attributes however. The book would be a good resource for finding a specialist in some esoteric area where it would be hard to find further opinions, but for Generalists it doesn't have enough information. I also think I was hoping for too much from this tome. (It is large.) I suppose I was seeking hard data on doctors of excellence along with some reviews of some sort.
I live with a doctor and know that more than anything word of mouth is the best recommendation but sometimes its nice to have a little more information. This book provides a good step up, but the reader had to do some footwork too, especially in finding actual reviews and recommendations. |
