Editorial Reviews

With yet another award added to its trophy cabinet (Broadcast Awards Best International Programme Sales, 2010), the top-rated Top Gear returns with its three kids-at-heart - Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May - plus the Stig, at the helm. There's a look at three wheeled cars, James drives a Toyota pick-up up an active volcano in Iceland and The Stig rips up the track in the new Bentley Continental Supersports. Plus, Richard gives the old Chevrolet Lacetti a dignified send off before he and Clarkson host a star-studded tea party to welcome in a shiny new Reasonably Priced Car. Stars taking a turn round the track in this series include ex Labour spin doctor Alistair Campbell, Harry Potter star Rupert Grint and F1 ace Rubens Barrichello. Presenter; Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

If you are a serious fan of Top Gear, getting the Blu-ray version definitely is a plus.

This season of Top Gear starts off with James, driving a Toyota Toyota Hilux into a volcano to see how invincible the truck truly is. This is the same vehicle they used on their Polar Special.

Then the team is sent out on a challenge to find used sport sedans for less then £5,000... you can only imagine all of their shenanigans and so call "challenges" they have to perform.

On episode three they pit two heavy weights against each other a Camaro SS vs. Merc Benz E63 AMG! That was one heck of a competition, and kind of surprised at the results. They also try to figure out which is the best four door supercar by driving a bride and groom (along with their families) to their wedding... lets just say keep the escorting of wedding gusts to the professionals.

Episode four was one of their DIY challenges. They attempt to build motorhomes on vehicles that they thought was better than dragging a caravan. If Lotus wanted to build a motor home, I'm sure they wouldn't have picked an Excel as it's main structure.

Episode five was cram packed with all sorts of goodies, including a race/review of a Volkswagen Touareg, a world record attempt, and Lewis Hamilton stops by.

The last episode of season fifteen was another challenge, they try to find out why the British sports car industry isn't doing so well by purchasing old roadsters for £5000. I probably laughed the hardest on this one.

The Blu-ray version also includes some behind the scenes with Celebs in the reasonably priced car, outtakes, and extended scenes.

I am very happy to see that the full episodes (run length approximately 370 minutes for six episodes) being released, not hacked up versions.

If you are a Top Gear fan of any sort, this Blu-ray is for you!

Top Gear is a terrific television series, and Season 15 does not disappoint -- except that the publisher forgot to include the Ayrton Senna tribute from Episode 5. This was the #1 reason why I purchased the season in the first place, as it is a stirring tribute to the greatest F1 driver of all time. To leave it off of the disc was an egregious error.

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely LOVE Top Gear UK (sorry Top Gear US, but you suck!).
I've watched all seasons, episodes and specials and I'm really a bug fan. That's why I easily give all 5 stars to the show but only 3 in this review.

I bought this particular episode because is should contain a ~12 min. tribute to famous Brazilian F-1 driver Ayrton Senna for what would have been his 50th b-day. For my entire surprise, exactly this portion has been cut out in this version from Amazon.com.

WHAT A SHAME AMAZON!!!! You should AT LEAST make that "detail" very clear to your customers.

It's too bad that we still can't "return" a digital purchase. If I could, I would certainly have returned it. And this is not my first deception with this kind of purchase.

REJOICE FELLOW TOP GEAR FANS!! Finally - I'm THRILLED to say that I just received seasons 14 and 15 on Blu-ray and they work beautifully on my PS3! Magnificent! The picture is absolutely unbelievable! Any TG fan will LOVE this - skip the regular disk and go straight to the Blu-ray!

top gear is great as usual but the sound in this video seems off. it gets really hard to hear them talking over music that is supposed to be in the background. it almost sounds like 5 channel sound was mixed incorrectly... this was the first video we tried from amazon and i am pretty disappointed with it.

Ever since I discovered Top Gear about three years ago, I have religiously downloaded every episode from torrent sites the day they were broadcast in England. I love this show and I enjoy watching it more than anything else on TV.
Of course, the legality of downloading the shows online is disputable and although it has been fine for years, I decided that I would show my support for the show by buying at least a few seasons after seeing they were available on Amazon. I have received both seasons 14 and 15, and season 16 is pre-ordered.

Compared to the downloaded versions, the Blu-ray copies are overall superior. Aside from usual annoyances like the FBI warning and previews for other shows that show up on all disc-based movies, most of the music played throughout the different segments has been replaced by very generic (royalty free) loops; disappointing but fully expected and understandable, due to copyright restrictions from the record companies. Picture and sound quality is fantastic, especially compared to TV rips that are sometimes less than perfect.

In short, I'd recommend these to any Top Gear fan and perhaps as a way to lure in others who have never seen this fantastic program.

There were a few really nice highlights in this episode, Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley - Harry Potter) showed up in the reasonable car, Rubens Barrichello (Brazilian F1 driver and holder of the most F1 race starts in history) also drives the reasonable car, and there was a shoot out between muscle cars from the US and Germany.

Richard, James, and Jeremy start the episode off driving three four door super cars on the weekend around the business section of London (that means there was nobody there - a real live ghost town). The funny part of this exercise, they all hate all the cars - the Maserati Quattroporte has too many weird buttons inside, the Aston Martin Rapide is too expensive, and the Porsche Panamera is too ugly. Nevertheless, they drive the cars around, and then let The Stig take laps with them.

The news is generally kind of funny - they show a company that modifies the Panamera with interesting results. And they revisit the Reliant Robin; an American stunt driver comes over and is challenged to make a lap around the test track. I'll say this, seeing that car just never gets old. It's like watching the Three Stooges, they can do the same darn joke over and over and they are still the funniest thing in the world.

Richard does the muscle car challenge. This is a really weird one. They take a 2010 Camaro SS and compare it to a Mercedes E66 AMG. I guess it's not too different from the US Top Gear comparing a Ferrari to a Corvette. Richard does a very fair comparison (he does own a couple of American muscle cars, a Mustang and something else). I still love the ending lines in this show; they just don't make logical sense. So you hated the car but you'd own one. Or it was the slowest car but you want it.

Rupert Grint gives an amazingly funny interview.
