They should have hired comedians and not car guys.

I love the way these three guys work together on this show to make it funny to watch.

The UK version is a mature product with a really big budget.

Top Gear UK is one of my favorite shows on TV. I was very excitied when the US version launched on the History Channel. Just like the Austrailian version, its not as good as the UK version. You really just can't replace James, Jeremy and Richard. They are some of funniest people on TV. However Adam, Tanner and Rutledge are still solid hosts. Tanner of course being a professional Rally Car driver and stunt car driver could have been The American Stig and has experience on auto shows as he appeared in a few shows on The Speed Channel. Rutledge is very funny as he is on Speed Channel's NASCAR coverage. Adam completes the trio and just like his co-hosts is funny. But the US version's biggest flaws are the lack of originality and the lack of humour as seen in the UK version. As for the lack of originality the 5th episode of this series resembles quite obviously the British Leyland Challenge. And of course this US version has to worry about offending certain people and is perhaps more "politically correct" than the UK version. Obviously the humour suffers as a result of that. Still I have found it to be one of my favorite TV series as it focuses on American cars and is for Americans. I'll still watch the UK version but I have found a 2nd favorite TV series.

At first, I hated the US top gear. However, it gets much better as you get later in season one, and especially in seasons two and three. I think they just needed to figure out their own identity. Now, going back and watching the first season again, it is not as bad as I remember it being the first time through. If you like the UK version, give the US version a try.

For the majority of hardcore Top Gear fans this show was doomed from the day it was announced. It could never be as good as their beloved UK Top Gear. I too was fearful but instead of watching it ready to nit pick it to death because I was offended by the very idea of it, I awaited it with hopeful enthusiasm. I was rewarded with a pleasant surprise. This show gets a 5 out of 5 in my book because it tremendously exceeded my expectations. Go back to the first season of the UK Top Gear (current format) and you will find a dreadfully tedious show. It took at least four more seasons for that show to develop into what it has become today as the presenters developed their personalities and interaction. The American version is already outpacing the UK version. From the first episode until the final challenge in Alaska you get to watch a significant improvement as the presenters find their footing and develop their on screen chemistry. This is a show that couldn't be perfect in its first season. It was a show that stood little chance of being bearable. Instead it came out as a pleasant and enjoyable show which in a vacuum, outside comparison to its British inspiration, would be highly praised.

It is unfair to compare this show to its UK version. The UK version is a mature product with a really big budget. Watch its first couple series and you will be underwhelmed. In comparison to the first two series of Top Gear UK, this is outstanding.

The cast is pretty entertaining, the show's formula works pretty well, and if they had a bigger budget, their guest stars would be better. It's nice seeing the beater used car challenges done with cars I've heard of, seen, and in some cases, owned myslef back in the day. This is a welcome improvement over the UK version. It's also nice seeing cars road tested that I could actually buy in the US.

If you like cars and like to see people have fun with cars, this is a fun show. It's not high art, you will likely not roll on the floor laughing out loud the whole time, but it's plenty amusing.

Please don't pay attention to the other user's review. Its obviously bias, and the user itself does not know what they are talking about. This show is good, not great but neither was the UK top gear in its first season. They built a chemistry and over time it became what it is today. It is an adjustment to a degree but give it a chance and you will see much of the same Top Gear you love. I have seen every series, special, and even Top Gear of The Pops special. Loved every minute of this. When I watched the first episode I was still a bit skeptical but thats not to say I didn't enjoy it. After about episode 3 I really got into it. Also the Alaskan episode is amazing. If your in to the UK think Bolivia special mixed with the Botswana one.

Bottom line give it a shot. The second season just started and after already watching the new season of the UK one it was again an adjustment, but one I believe could fade over time.

Oh and in case you are wondering the second season opened to 2 mil people so thats pretty good for a show of its kind in the US.

They try way too hard to be like the superior UK version... The USA version fails because they force too much right away instead of letting things build naturally like the UK version. While the format is the same, the interaction between the 3 hosts is a fail. While I don't like how the UK version bashes most of the American vehicles, they are just a better done show. I couldn't watch all of the first episode of the first season due to the horrific hosting...
