Just returned from Turkey. Book was handy to carry and very accurate. Nice to know the hours and days that a destination is open and available to visit before you waste time getting there and find out it's closed. Maps were accurate and easy to follow. Comments were right on target.

This is a substantially smaller, condensed version of Istanbul (Eyewitness Travel Guides). As in other major cities the D-K Top 10 guides provide useful punchlists of things to see, with short descriptions of each. They are far easier to carry than the larger guides.

Consider buying both.

This is a great guide for the first time visiter to this wonderful city. So much history, so much to see, to do and to eat. This guide helps you so you won't miss the "you have to..."'s of a trip to a new place.

We are returning to Istanbul after 10 years, and wanted to upgrade our library. Our first choice was this book, having used it on previous trips. It has been updated, and will be used next month every day to help us get around.

We were only in Istanbul for four days so we really needed help in what we had to see there. The book was helpful in getting us to the main sites, and suggestions of potential schedules so that you could maximize your time by seeing the sites that were located in the same vicinity. There is a lot to see and do in Istanbul. The book was even great about telling what you had to see in a certain location, like the Hagia Sophia and The Archaelogical Museum.

I would highly recommend this book. It is compact and offers pull out maps for even more space savings.

If you're going to Turkey in general, then before I get this, I would get DK's Turkey, which includes Istanbul in its description. However, if your main purpose in traveling to Turkey is spending a couple of days in Istanbul and nowhere else, then Top 10 Istanbul is the pick. I find it's descriptions excellent and accurate. I just returned from a trip to Turkey, my second in two years, and love their recommendations. If you have limited time, then you MUST see Topkapi Palace, Haghia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and the Archaeological Museum, shopping at the Bazzar at the end. I have not visited the last 5 places they list, so obviously I've taken their Top 5 considerations most seriously and have not been disappointed. If you're spending a day or more in Istanbul, this is the book you should get.

This is the best guide I've seen on Istanbul. It is concise and well organized. There are handy maps to find what you're looking for.

It covers major sites, shopping, dining, hotels, local transportation systems, cultural information, helpful phrases, streetsmart topics and maps. Its user-friendly organization enables the traveler to find information quickly. It helps the traveler with limited time prioritize activities. Its compact size (7 1/2" x 4")fits neatly into a pocket for easy reference.

Reading this book as a primer before my trip, I gained confidence to navigate the city on my own and the background to maximize my enjoyment of the monuments and museums in Istanbul. I will definitely seek an Eyewitness Travel book for the next city I visit.

I have been using these guides for many years and this newer compact size is easy to pack and carry and contains a wealth of information that will become outdated in a year or two. The quality of the paper is excellant and the book is well bound so you don't have to worry about loose pages. I try to purchase one of these compact guides for each location I travel to and I find I have all the information I need. Great buy at Amazon and free shipping.This edition on Istanbul is excellant.
