5.0 out of 5 stars A strong case against universal health care
Ms. Pipes lays out a solid case against the current political solutions to the healthcare problem.
She refutes each of the healthcare myths with solid research and sound economic logic.
The best part is that she does not only argue against the myths, but at the end presents a range of free market solutions that will improve everyones healthcare.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pipe Down
The title may draw you as it did me, but the read was disappointing on a couple of levels.

1) The style is dry and without flow.
2) No solutions to 'Health Care' problems are proposed.

I have seen Ms Pipes on TV talk a number of times and it seems apparent that she has a wealth of experience, knowledge and intelligence. Regretably, these...

This is one of the best condensed versions for healthcare reform and should be read by everyone interested in this subject.

All that should be said about Sally P. Pipes' book already has been said by the eminently qualified reviewer, Dr Thomas Sowell. For insight into The Top Ten Myths of American Health Care read Dr. Sowell's column from 7 January 2009. Little more can be added, except that the book is quite readable.

This is a comprehensive look at the American health care system. It clears up misconceptions about cost, government intervention, and acess to health care. Let's look at the solutions list in this book and not let polititions ruin or health care for power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written and cited., April 2, 2009
A good book to read that counter's a lot of liberals complaints and inaccuracies about our current health care system. She goes on to explain why we shouldn't try to emulate Britain's or Canada's system and does a good job citing her claims which can be looked up and verified given some time (which I actually in some instances because I considered the claims unbelievable).

Ms. Pipes certainly has the credentials and we should certainly listen to what she has to say. She does a good job of breaking down this complex issue into simple reading.

As an added note, she lived under the Canadian health care systems and says it isn't satisfactory for most American's. Since I've never experienced this I'll never know, but I'll take her word for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written thesis for the consumer and professional alike, March 28, 2009

Well written, easily read review of many of the common misconceptions being pushed to justify "fixing" our "broken" healthcare system. I highly recommend this to anyone that has a vested interest in health, healthcare, or healthcare policy. I guess that should be just about every American.

Very informative. Refutes the lies told by Obama and the left. My copy had a shiny cover (that isn't actually a paperback) and the pages were in color. Since it's published by the Pacific Research Institute, I feel like I'm supporting a good cause. Worth the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Falls short, December 21, 2011
By
Maria Folsom (East Glacier Park, Montana USA) - See all my reviews
Great explanation of the facts, with excellent references and statistics. However, her suggestions at the end of the book fall short. Almost all the remedies require MORE government intervention, which is exactly what she argues against throughout the book. Health savings accounts, income tax fixes, health care vouchers, etc., all require more bureaucracy and more Government! A disapointing culmination to an otherwise good book.
