3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe it is true?
UFOlogists are divided on this issue. Some say the MJ 12 files are fake and the authors of this book know this. And many believe that these files are factual. I remember a big fuss about the MJ 12 and severe criticism of Stanton Friedman's defense of his MJ 12 Files on his website.
It is a question mark.
Interesting book. Maybe someday we will know the truth?

For those who read extensively in this area, Stanton Friedman is clearly the Einstein of the field. Not one to engage in unsupported speculation, Friedman approaches the MJ-12 question carefully, methodically, and with the highest standards of scholarship. When he doesn't know something, he clearly states it. When the evidence shows that something is likely, he explains why it's more likely than other explanations. In this book, Friedman tackles, among other topics, the amazing manuscript known as the Eisenhower Briefing Document, which, if legitimate, amounts to an admission by the U.S. government that UFOs are real and that their existence has been deliberately kept from the American public since at least the 1940s. Friedman argues masterfully in favor of the authenticity of this seminal UFO proof document. In my opinion, this is the best book out there about the so-called Majestic 12 documents.

This review is from: Top Secret/Majic: Operation Majestic-12 and the United States Government's UFO Cover-up (Paperback)
Excellent book. After reading this book, it looks like there are no good arguments against the validity of the Majestic Documents. The book is very well written and reveals many facts about debunkers. Very good appendices also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, March 18, 2007
This review is from: Top Secret/Majic: Operation Majestic-12 and the United States Government's UFO Cover-up (Paperback)
This book, is without a doubt, worth reading for anyone who is interested in UFOs and government conspiracies. I completely agree with the author that there is a "cosmic watergate" in place concerning the existence of flying saucers, as well as their occupants, and the recovery of both. This book is a great read the clearly lays out the history of the Majestic 12 documents and their authenticity, multiple flying saucer crashes/recoveries and the on-going lie that is being told to all of mankind regarding our reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wishful Thinking? I Think Not., February 26, 2007
This review is from: Top Secret/Majic: Operation Majestic-12 and the United States Government's UFO Cover-up (Paperback)
Let's be honest. There is no "PROOF" of an extraterrestrial presence that you will find in this book or ANY other book. However, as many other respected researchers, investigative journalists, and curious scientists have done in the past, Stanton Friedman presents a strong case for the ETH (Extra-Terrestrial Hypothesis). He validates every assertion he makes throughout the book with substantial verifiable evidence in government documentation and otherwise. Friedman never simply promotes his personal opinion as matter of fact - at least not in Top Secret/Majic.

The appendices are terrific as well including the MJ-12 Eisenhower Briefing Document in its entirety, a letter from General Twining to Schulgen, insider information uncovered during authentication of Majestic-12 documents, some exclusions to the freedom of information act, Air Force response to senator Patty Murray, and the directors of central intelligence (from Sidney Souers to John Deutch). There is also 10 pages of external sources and references from large scale scientific studies to books written about and by debunkers.

Also included are 22 black and white photographs of alleged members as well as key Roswell witnesses, and Friedman himself along side debunker Phil Klass. There is also a recreation of the Majestic-12 Operations Manual as deciphered by Dr. Robert Wood from low quality snap shots consisting of 18 pages.

Friedman effectively and substantially demolishes the competition by irrefutably ruling out common debunking explanations for the MJ-12 documents to validate his postulation of authenticity. Such debunking explanations as the "cut and paste" job with the Truman signature as well as specific words and phrases used that were "not in use at that time" and of course the common misconception of military date format.

Mr. Friedman also effectively justifies his position on fraudulent MJ-12 documents and gives extensive reasoning and evidence for their fraudulence and lack of correlation to authentic MJ-12 documents. Stan also exposes the hoaxed Roswell alien autopsy video fiasco.

Through his meticulous research and investigative efforts, Mr. Friedman has effectively ruled out nearly all arguments against authenticity. Although he doesn't necessarily provide irrefutable proof of authenticity (if such were even possible), by picking apart every argument yet to question the validity of said documents you can rest assured there is little reason to doubt the authenticity of MJ-12. With the addition of his 10-page afterword, Friedman puts an exclamation point on his position and sufficiently stamps out false arguments so often recycled in the misinformed media.

The presentation of accumulative evidence may seem boring to some because of the lack of strange details, claims, and twists and turns in the story so typical in UFO literature, but the evidence is there nonetheless and certainly makes a very strong case for authenticity, you just have to have the will to evaluate. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, though, and don't regret buying it at all.

Disregard dismissive disparaging reviews. It appears very evident those whom submit such reviews have not read the book at all by maintaining a lack of evidence and inferences towards subjective research relying on second and third hand witnesses. The fact of the matter is, you could write such a review for any book related to the subject matter, but it does the reader no justice to accept such dismissive diatribes off-hand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good arguments, but mostly about insider's arguments for UFO existence, February 25, 2008

This review is from: Top Secret/Majic: Operation Majestic-12 and the United States Government's UFO Cover-up (Paperback)
Mr. Friedman is a persuasive proponent of the thesis that the US Government has engaged in a massive cover-up concerning the existence of UFOs. He theorizes that the government has recovered crashed UFOs, and that certain leaked information concerning this program of deception is authentic.

Friedman is no crank, in my opinion, whether you agree with his belief concerning UFOs or not. This book contains some fascinating leaked documents, which, if not fraudulent, are startling indeed.

On the downside, this book contains a lot of rather involved argument concerning the credibility of various UFO debunkers that I had never even heard of. It is mostly insider's arguments of limited relevance to the casual reader (e.g. myself) who does not know the personalities involved. This is not, in short, a summary of Friedman's theory of UFOs with background supporting such theory. It is more of a reply argument against certain persons who have attacked Friedman and his theory. As such, the book was a bit of a disappointment to me. On the other hand, more involved UFO-ologists may really appreciate the detailed arguments and rebuttals that Friedman presents.

For those who are unaware, Majestic-12 is allegedly a Top-Secret US Government program to deal with an alien presence on Earth. It allegedly began shortly after the Second World War under President Truman. At various times certain UFO experts have received, anonymously, documents that appeared to be official US Government or military documents that support the existence of Majestic-12. Certainly very thought-provoking.

An interesting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dirty Dozen, July 7, 2006
This review is from: Top Secret/Majic: Operation Majestic-12 and the United States Government's UFO Cover-up (Paperback)
Based on extensive research in 20 archives and libraries and with the assistance of handwriting and document verification experts the author, a well-respected, veteran ufologist, makes a excellent case for the authenticity of the 3 principal MJ-12 documents and we can conclude that they have an over 90% probability of being genuine as he skillfully and convincingly demolishes with established facts all the skeptical arguments and objections. And there is no convincing nor compelling evidence to indicate any fraudulence to the documents.
The author also recounts the intrigue and detective work behind the research into the Roswell crash and, of course, into the documents themselves and devotes chapters, as well, to MJ-12 itself, engrossing FIA court challenges, skeptics, and the alien autopsy film hoax. He begins with a brief bio as an introduction and ends with an afterword, 6 appendices, a list of sources, and an index. There are 21 black and white photos.
Naturally, skeptics are not amused especially the lunatic fringe among them(skepticultists) whose claims are, evidentially, on a par with creationism, geocentricism, and the flat Earth and hollow Earth and lunar landing hoax ideas, and are a complete laughing stock, have zero credibility, and are partners in crime with the cover-up mafia with which they form the Anti-Truth Axis. Yet they are taken seriously by powerful pluralities in the media and academia who might well be motivated more by politics than by skepticism. By contrast, the ETT(extraterrestrial theory), evidentially, is on apar with atomic, quantum, relativity, and evolutionary theory.
A fascinating book recommended for those interested in the evidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Explosive and Threatening!!!, May 6, 2008
This review is from: Top Secret/Majic: Operation Majestic-12 and the United States Government's UFO Cover-up (Paperback)
With the discovery of the MJ12 Documents in the national archives, Friedman made history. How accurate are the papers? And how reliable is the list of these 12 top scientists and military men?? That is the question.
Nevertheless, there are plenty of evidence and dat to substantiate Friedman's claims. Great book!!!

I was reading one of the critical reviews. The reviewer said that Friedman had insufficient evidence and that he was "laughed at" by Kevin Randle.

Two things are wrong with that review. First of all, Friedman has done YEARS of research on this and has checked EVERYTHING carefully. Friedman wrote over 200 pages on what...the eight pages that make up the MJ-12 documents? That's not enough evidence for you? Why don't you go to Friedman's website and read the many additional papers he has written on the subject which all refute the criticism that many other ufologists have given him? More importantly, did that reviewer even READ the book carefully?

And he thinks that Corso's fable of a book is one of the best? Uh...okay...

Second of all, Friedman is correct in labeling people like Randle and other Ufologists as "armchair theorists". They sit there and scoff because they already have the idea in their head that it is impossible for extraterrestrials to visit us! I mean c'mon, WE are in control of our world. We are powerful and something of unknown origin threatens that. The government is our friend! They wouldn't lie to us about this. That's their reasoning. Mankind LOVES to be in control, and it does not like to think about things which it cannot control, since those things could pose a threat to it. That's a known fact. That's why so many hate the idea of extraterrestrials. That's why so many are skeptics. Man HAS to be in control.

ANYWAYS...

This book was a wonderful read. VERY well researched. Friedman definitely knows his stuff. You know, the most convincing evidence in support of the documents' authenticity is this:

HOW in the world could a hoaxer have known all of the information contained within the documents such as the dates of meetings? And WHY would a hoaxer purposefully reveal himself by putting in so many SEEMINGLY erroneous material such as unorthodox date format, the inclusion of a supposed UFO Debunker as a key MJ-12 member, and a typeface not seen in the majority of US Presidential documents????

The fact is that NONE of the debunkers can answer this question. NONE HAVE. And that's why I believe they are genuine. Until they can give me more than sufficient proof against their validity IN ADDITION TO answering the questions above, I will believe in their genuineness.

You see, the government knows how to play the public. It's all about media. They've made the whole UFO subject taboo. They've made it so that the people automatically laugh and disbelieve when the subject of UFOs has been brought up. They don't bother speaking up about the subject anymore because the people are already doing their job for them. Look at the debunkers who have bought into the Air Force's pathetic explanations (like the stupid Project Mogul explanation which makes no sense whatsoever. Psh, as if people don't know what a weather balloon looks like. What do they think, we're stupid?) This isn't a conspiracy theory. If you think about it, the Universe is so vast. We would be ARROGANT to think we are the only ones. Beings from other planets know about us and our hostility. That's why they come here. Duh. Think about it -- Atomic bombs? Hydrogen bombs? Chemical weaponry? C'mon people, wouldn't we do the same if we found beings on another planet with such weaponry and the fact that it advances at an alarming rate?

Anyway, that's all I have to say! I know I diverged a bit, but you all know what I'm trying to say. =)

Don't trust everything the government tells you. Don't be gullible. They keep this information from us for obvious reasons. Just look at how people reacted when War of the Worlds was read over the radio in the 1930s. Another example would be my own parents when I was a kid. They saw a blimp in the sky which looked A LOT like a flying saucer. They SCREAMED and ran outside in terror, thinking that the end of the world was near.

If the government told people about this, society would COLLAPSE. Religion would fail. Everyone would be panicking. The stock market would crash due to immense fear.

Think about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressively thorough, July 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I can't think of many things as interesting as a secret organization created by a US president to study UFO wreckage. I wanted to see detailed arguments for and against the authenticity of the MJ-12 documents, and this book has that. The analysis of these documents covers their physical attributes as well as their content, so it's comprehensive. For example, a lot of research is included on Dr. Menzel , a man whose alleged membership in MJ-12 seems controversial until you dig deeper (which Stanton Friedman has done), and significant research is also included on how military memos and documents at the time were formatted, signed, dated, stamped, and otherwise created in practice as well as in theory according to military procedures.

The idea of a government cover-up is not that much of a stretch for me, on this topic or any other topic. So, personally I'm comfortable judging the authenticity of the MJ-12 documents without an initial bias and using the "preponderance of evidence" as the standard. Based on that approach, and the analysis in this book, I agree with Stanton Friedman that the MJ-12 documents are probably authentic. If you have an initial bias against these ideas for some reason, and if you need more than just the preponderance of evidence to change your mind, well - you won't find any DNA evidence linking these documents to Truman, and you won't find a notarized signed confession, and the evidence presented in this book will probably not resonate with you.

One practical matter to consider is that this book is so thorough and "modular" in its organization that it really could be considered a reference book. I read it sequentially, but in hindsight that wasn't necessary.
