3.0 out of 5 stars Slippery slope
I first heard the track "Organ" on a progressive (college) radio station while working Montreal. Very hooky groove, a bit trippy. Called the station, DJ had left, no playlist available. Then, as luck would have it, I heard it again on Radio Paradise (an Internet "radio station"), which, of course, posted the playlist online.

4.0 out of 5 stars Supercool with a refreshingly hard edge..., February 3, 2002
This review is from: Top Secret (Audio CD)
Drawing on three decades of jazz playing, Belgian born keyboardist Marc Moulin produces a funky mix of acid-jazz back beats, rolling organ & guitar licks and (thankfully sparse) electronically enhanced vocals, pushed well above the "comfortably pleasant" zone by strong compositions, clever arrangements and effortlessly tight musicianship (including some excellent sax & trumpet breaks) that give virtually all of the tracks the hard edge needed to draw you back for more. Similar to Saint Germain's "Tourist" but with a much stronger pure jazz feel, the album flows from start to finish and, while a couple of tracks come dangerously close, avoids falling into the boringly lush waters of "hotel lobby background music" that engulf too many of his contemporaries. Supercool, interesting & fun - a rare combination indeed!

Short, inventive solos by the featured artists (among them Philip Catherine on electric guitar)cascade over tasteful yet solid rhythms. Vocalist Christa adds some cool refrains but Moulin features her singing more as a rhytmic instrument.

Highlights are "Into the Dark", "What" and the afore-mentioned "Organ". Call it what you will, but like all well-produced, well-performed cuts, these should find a place on your shelf (or I-POD)to be played when the mood suits the music.

4.0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD COPY, December 14, 2004
This review is from: Top Secret (Audio CD)
MARC DOESN'T HAVE A VERY WELL DEFINED STYLE, IST SOUNDS, JAZZY, A LITTLE ELECTRONIC, BUT IF YOU DON'T PUT HIM IN THE SAME CONTEXT, OF SAINT GERMAIN, KEVIN YOST, OR KOOP, YOU REALLY WILL ENJOY IT, TAKE IT AS IT COMES.

You could hate or love Marc music, but you can't denied that you can share a great moment with somebody who likes you, wine, cheese and this album... Ok, isn't jazz and isn't electro either, but you're looking for other stuff...
It's soft, fresh and complete.

5.0 out of 5 stars music of Marc Moulin, May 8, 2002

I first heard of Marc, because of Telex, and I am probably one of their biggest fans, ever since I heard their version of Rock Around The Clock, I was just surprised the he had anything out. I haven;t heard this yet, But I will get it anyway just because it is by one of Telex. I was on a flight from Los Angeles to NYC just a few hours ago and I saw that Dan Lacksman and his Alliance also had something new. Michel Moers had an album last year. Anything that these guys do, I don't care what anyone else says. I will try an get everything they have out. If you like early 80's electro music, or just are finding these guys now, check out the stuff they did when they were Telex, you might just appreciate what they are doing.

This is disappointing.
It's not real Jazz, it's not electronic music too.
It's a kind of mixture,
and for people who may like Telex and thing this could resemble Telex in any way, don't waste your time.
