Editorial Reviews

From the shots of Annie Oakley to William Tell, History takes aim at legendary feats of marksmanship with the competition series Top Shot, in which 16 individuals from around the country shoot it out for a $100,000 prize. Hosted by Colby Donaldson (Survivor), contenders face challenges inspired by real events, from Wild West gunfights to modern-day sniper missions. Every episode reveals the weapons, technologies, and tactics of a different era, while high-speed HD cameras capture each skillful execution with breathtaking precision. All will take aim, but only one contestant will walk away with the $100,000 prize, and title of Top Shot. Bonus disc includes over an hour of never-before-seen additional footage, contestant biographies, and elimination interviews that narrow the race down to the final two competitors.

Customer Reviews

The show turned out to be much better than I thought it might be.

Very entertaining if you're a weapon history fan or you like you contest shows, the scenery was gorgeous and the reality show aspect was kept to a minimum.
Luis C Vargas
We watch an episode each night and she really looks forward to it.

It's great to see a show out there that shows the positive and fun side of guns. I also, think it's cool that they feature different calibers and brands. Overall, enjoyed the DVDs.

My hobby is shooting sports. Found this DVD series online. Never saw Top Shot on TV. Took a chance and purchased the first season. I have watched about half of the episodes. The first few episodes have more "drama" than shooting in a manner that (I guess) is typical of a show in which contestants compete against each other while living together in the same house. Eventually the shooting gets more complicated for the contestants and more interesting for the viewer. The shooting is nicely filmed with super slow motion shots of guns firing and targets breaking which are really neat to see. The super slow motion alone makes the purchase price worthwhile for me. What I found really interesting is my wife's reaction to the show. I began watching the series alone -- I didn't invite my wife to watch because I thought she'd have no interest. She happened by and became very interested in watching the series. We watch an episode each night and she really looks forward to it. I will definitely purchase subsequent seasons when they are available.

4-24-14 Update. Not only did my wife and I enjoy all 4 seasons of Top Shot on DVD, she keeps asking when season 5 will be available. Had to make do with watching season 1 again. Enjoyable the second time as well. In all four seasons some of the contestant drama and conflict is a little uninteresting but the shooting is always interesting! As a shooting enthusiast, this is my absolute favorite TV series.

At first I wasn't sure if Top Shot was going to good. Because most reality TV shows are faked. If you want the real the deal, then this is what you are looking for.
The general concept of the show is pretty simple: 16 shooters are selected and divided into two teams, the Blue and the red team. The first half of the show is the team challenge, where the two teams compete to see which team will send a member home. Before each challenge, they have the team practice with the weapon(s) that will be used in the challenge. After the challenge, the loosing team goes to the Nominating Range, were they pick who will be facing off in the elimination challenge. The way they nominate, I think anyways, is unique. They set up circular targets with contestants names on them and shoot them with a handgun. Then the two players with the most votes go to the elimination challenge.... and only one will be coming back.
Also, if you like to see stuff blown to smithereens in slow motion, then this is your show. If you have any interest in guns, then you will love this show.
All in all, this show is realistic, entertaining, and just plain cool.

If your a fan of reality television, a fan of guns, a fan of seeing very difficult shots performed in an elimination style competition with 100k on the line... then this is for you! I missed the first season, got interested after seeing the second season on t.v. Ordered this, and have not been dissapointed. The challenges are different from season 2 if you saw that and it got you interested. The best feature in this set, no commercials! Have to love being able to watch a show and not be constantly interrupted.

Warning: Watching this show will make you want to go to the range!

I happened to catch the last couple episodes of Season One a few months ago just after it had ended (during one of History's marathons), and quickly started to like it. By that point in the show, there were only a few shooters left in the competition so I really got to see the best of the best. Then I started watching Season Two and knew I had to get more Top Shot. Also, my fiance hadn't seen Season One, but after (literally) forcing her to watch the first episode of Season Two, she was hooked, too. So we got it for a great price on Amazon and were watching it that weekend.

The show itself is hard to describe. Sure, the shooting is what you really want to see when you first start watching, but after a time you really become invested in the competitors, too. I hate reality TV, and sometimes the in-house politics gets annoying, but once they get out on the range and display their skill, all that crap disappears for a while. I'd say it's split pretty even, half the show is goofy reality TV stuff, and the other half is shooting. After a while, some of the more annoying ones go away and you're left with a group of guys and girl that you can really respect.

Essentially, if you're a weapons enthusiast in any way shape or form, or just love a good show of skill, Top Shot will not disappoint. Definitely worth the low price on Amazon.

Going into the first season of Top Shot, I only started watching because I'm a Colby fan and that was it. I knew zip about guns and didn't think the show would be very interesting. Two episodes in the show that theory went right out the window. The show surprisingly gave, much knowledge towards the way of guns, and the teamwork and preformance level, proved to be far more vital to the show then I had expected.

Over the course of the season, I grew to enjoy most of the contestants preformence and found the challenges to be very well designed and challenging (with only one exception, the 2nd half of ep.4 elimination challenge). The cast members developed, the right people left and the showdown's between the better half of the cast was awesome. Best of all the right person came on top, a marksmen who worked well with its team, proved to be quite skillful with every weapon, had good relations with everyone and had some good glory moments.

On the whole, this season was a great intro for reality show about guns. I bought this dvd as soon as I could. Unfortunutly it lacks in the extra's department by not adding anything except material that most would've already watched, on historychannel.com. This is the first season that every reality show should have.
