While I'm sure the recipes themselves are fine in this book, my "pet peeve" with these (like so many slow cooker recipes) is that they require additional cooking/steps before you even get to the slow cooker stage. Which, to me, defeats the whole point of a slow cooker. If I'm getting a skillet, a saucepan, a whisk and spatula dirty already, why on earth would I then want to also stick everything in a slow cooker and deal with that mess too later that night. In cases like those, I'd much rather just use a dutch oven for the whole process, then stick it in the oven to cook. It's less mess and really, much faster. Might as well do everything at once, I say.

The recipes in this book are easy but sound delicious. There are a lot of things that I would love to try and some that I use all the time. The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients are things that almost anyone will have on hand.

As I've said before, I'm a sucker for slow cooker books. This one looks to have some good, delicious recipes in it. There are no photos for those that need that. There are no serving counts, no prep times, and no nutritional info. The formatting is good, with the table of contents containing links to each recipe for easy navigation, and a page break after each recipe so that they don't all run together. The price looks to be good, since most cookbooks at this price point contain only 25 to 35 recipes.

Many cookbooks have "gourmet" recipes when what I really want is "real food" recipes. This cookbook thankfully has mostly the latter. I am especially excited to try out the brisket recipes! I love crock pot cooking and this book has given me a few new ideas! I also enjoyed the Mexican/TexMex inspired recipes as well and can't wait to try them. I gave the cookbook four stars because there were some possible errors in some recipes which may cause confusion for some cooks (use a boneless pork loin, then further down you are instructed to remove bones) and the large amount of lamb recipes were, personally, not something I would prepare.
