Passion, soul...Tower of Power is still in the slot,
This review is from: T.O.P. (Audio CD)
They still have the stroke. I am seasoned TOP fan from days of East Bay Grease and after a couple time through, this CD really sunk in. After 100+ times, it was into my soul. The passion, the soul gets into your veins and shapes your memories and experiences of life. This will always be my 2002 CD...this will grow on you...it's the real deal baby!

excellent return to their funky East Bay Grease Roots,

I came in contact with this album through blind luck. A freind of mine who knew of my love for their horns turned me onto this album. It is a good mixture of funky tunes with their great horn section, and some slow love ballads that are reminiscent of "You're still a young man" and "So very hard to go". Overall, I think it is one of their best albums ever that unfortunately didn't get a lot of commercial air play but is still outstanding for the T.O.P. fan or someone who loves horns and the funky sound of the East Bay.

Never an Outage with Tower of Power,

I've listened to just about every recording Tower of Power has ever made and T.O.P. is the second best in the last 15 years, the best being "Rhythm and Business." The tunes comprise Tower of Power's brand of funky R&B, with some jazz riffs here and there and good horn arrangements, as usual. There's little lead guitar for fans of such. Since Bruce Conte left the band in 1979, there hasn't been much of that, darn it. (Conte briefly returned to the band from 2006 to 2007.) Moreover, there really isn't a classic tune on this album, but all of them are fairly good; and there are many -- 14 tracks. Wow, I thought the CD would never end! The best of Tower of Power was definitely in the 1970s, but this disk is worth while.

Funky, soul, a little bit of jazz here and there this is the recipe. Plus add a fantastic musicianship from all the guys in the band. I really love this album it is extremely funny. I love to hear this sort of commercial funky soul sometimes. It's great music. Can't understand the critics to the singer. He delivers the goods. This music does not require an unbelievable vocal ability. This music is about groove. To me his apport to this album is strong and consistent. A groove album. I love Monster on a leash too.

Excellent CD made in Austria, incredible sound, extraordinary horn arrangements, great vocals by Tom Bowes, fantastic keyboards by Nick Milo, produced by Emilio Castillo, a must have for Tower of Power fans. Oustanding tunes include Soul With A Capital S, Please Come Back To Stay, The Real Deal, Come To A Decison, Cruise Control (masterpiece by Greg Adams and Nick Milo), and I Like Your Style, just to name a few. Highly recommended CD, as well as their previous 1991 recording Monster On A Leash.

I have not found anything by Tower of Power that I don't love and this CD is no different. Their signature sound is evident throughout and it is a shame that they don't get more respect than they do after 40+ years of making great music. I recommend anything from TOP.

This is the only CD that I own by T.O.P. It's a mixed blend of funk, soul, jazz, and rock. Although some of the music seems to be dated...The playing and the singing are top-notch! The best songs are Quiet Scream, Cruise Control, Please Come Back To Stay, You, and Come To A Decision. I came to my decision and bought this CD several years ago...Now, go and do the same and you won't be sorry!!!

OK, maybe not the greatest album TOP ever put out, but more than enough in here to make it well worth the price you pay for it. Check out Lenny Pickett's solo on "It all Comes Back". Absolutely inspired! Very possibly the finest sax solo I've ever heard! The man can play! Plenty of other good stuff here. They've had better albums, but this is certainly no disappointment -- not by a long shot.

A good CD. I love "Soul With a Capital 'S'." It's awesome. This CD is good, but some of the songs aren't. "Educated Bump" is cool. Lenny Pickett is great. I recommend "TOP."

CD came in a timely manner. The CD was in good shape. The plastic casing was cracked - but nothing harmed. Happy with the purchase.
