Top Trumps is a great game for kids, basically a variation on the classic card game of "War". Each deck has a different theme (in this case Marvel heroes, but other decks have everything from monsters to military to skyscrapers to dinosaurs) and each card features something related to the theme with a description and a series of "statistics". The Marvel heroes, for example, have ratings for height, intelligence, strength, speed, agility, and fighting skills.

To play, you deal the entire deck (to 2-6 players) so that the cards are in face-down piles in front of each player. The players pick up the cards so that they can see only the top card (but no one else can) then the first player picks an attribute from their top card (generally the best one) and reads it aloud. The players then compare that attribute on all cards and whoever has the card that is best in that attribute wins the hand and keeps all of the cards (putting them on the bottom of their own deck). If there is a tie for first place, or if any card has "n/a" in that category, then the cards are all placed to the side and the same player starts a new hand. The winner of that hand gets the cards from both hands. Whoever gets all of the cards (or, alternately, whoever has the most cards by the agreed upon end time) is the winner.

Gameplay is simple, so even younger kids can pick it up pretty easily, but can be a bit monotonous for older players.

The only real problem that I noticed is that there are some errors in the information about the Marvel heroes. For example, the character Thor is listed as having the real name "Jake Olsen". I knew that this was wrong (Thor's alter ego is Donald Blake) but since I am not an authority on all things Thor, I looked it up online.

Top Trumps is a great take on the traditional game of war with a bit of strategy, accessible to all ages from 3 to 300. (6+ on the package but with some rules bending it's not too tough for our little guy)

We bought the Marvel version because my son is named after Spider-Man. The game itself is simple, deal out all cards to all players until they are gone. Then choose an attribute and battle. Everything from height to intelligence to fighting skills. We played after a long Christmas day and everyone had fun.

I would recommend this to anyone wanting a quick fun game.
