From School Library Journal
Gr 4-6-Three serviceable though unremarkable titles. Each book lists the authors' selections of the 10 greatest to have ever played women's tennis, basketball, and football. Curiously, Basketball leaves out Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Bill Russell in order to include some ``deserving alternatives.'' The brief, two-page entries, arranged alphabetically, provide cursory glimpses of the athletes, concentrating on their professional careers. Two photographs are included for each subject. Sporadic endnotes provide documentation, mainly for direct quotes. These books are similar to, but on a bit higher reading level than, Rourke's ``Baseball,'' ``Basketball,'' ``Football,'' and ``Hockey Heroes'' series. For purchase by libraries looking to beef up their sports sections.-Tom S. Hurlburt, La Crosse Public Library,
