5.0 out of 5 stars Tight G-Funk Melodies from Memphis Playas, April 27, 2006
By
This review is from: On Top of the World (Audio CD)
EightBall & MJG came out with a certified banger in 1995 with On Top Of The World. These southerners bring the heat with nice pimpin' flows over smooth bass-heavy beats. Some of the beats approach a west coast, even better, a Bay area feel to them such as in "Top Of The World" with a vocoder in the hook. The beats throughout the album are fun and perfect to ride to. "Pimp In my Own Rhyme" is a little harder showing how they are on top of the pimp game and are in charge. "What Do You See" is a funky, melodic track, a perfect hood anthem. E-40 and Mac Mall appear in the track "Friend Or Foe," so you know that this south and west connection is comin' tight with each's unique flows. I love the beat in "For Real;" with whiny synths and a funky guitar riff, an immaculate combo in G-Funk. The dynamic duo talk about keepin' it real and shakin' the fakin' in the rap game and in life. This album will satisfy any west coast and southern rap fan. Really, any rap fan will find enjoyment in On Top Of The World.

5.0 out of 5 stars the eightball says yes, October 5, 2003

Not only do 8ball & MJG have sick ass beats, but I'm loving the lyrics. My favorite would have to be Friend or Foe featuring E-40, because it's pretty much the Alameda anthem, talking about fakers. There music falls into the whole bay area/west coast rap feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album from Ball & G -- their best, November 4, 2004

This review is from: On Top of the World (Audio CD)
The fat mac Eightball & the skinny pimp MJG deliver a classic album. This is my favorite out of all their group albums (I have 6 of them). All the songs are tight and you can listen straight through without skipping any. They are some of the south's finest (w/ Scarface, UGK, Devin the Dude, Lil Keke, Lil Flip, Big Mike, C-Murder, Young Buck, & Mr. Serv-On). There is no song on here I skip, it has 3 classics and a number of great songs. Southern rap isn't my favorite type of rap but I like some of it and this album is great and everyone should have a copy of it.

#2 - 10 (classic)
#3 - 10 (classic)
#4 - 9.5
#5 - 9 (about the evil of cocaine)

Here we find the boys in true top form. This is also my favorite disc of theirs. I love bringing this cd along when I hook up new A/V equipment... it just sounds so damn good! The Beats, the Groove, and the Raps are so tight.

5.0 out of 5 stars 8Ball & MJG's Dope Underground Album!, December 30, 2005
This review is from: On Top of the World (Audio CD)
Memphis, TN's finest MC's 8Ball & MJG come hard on this 199Nickel track, I wish more southern hip hop artists were like these poetic spaceage pimps, who have this rapping sh*t down. They need to be more media oriented I think people will start to pay more attention to them. Pimp In My Own Rhyme is a tight g-funk classic, Funk Mission is another hit of theirs I like, Kick that Sh*t sounds like something of the Geto Boys or N.W.A. which is a tight song, how can I forget the horrorcore classic Hand Of the Devil!?

Tennesee Titan's best songs are *2, 3, 4, *5, *6, 7, *8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 & 15.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Under-rated!!!, July 28, 2005
This review is from: On Top of the World (Audio CD)
"On Top of the World" is a great example of why Ball & G are called the Kings of the south. Every track on this record is tight. The Beats are super clean as hell, fulla southern funk. And the lyrics are amazing as well, Ball & G spit like no other! It's too bad this album is often overlooked by many...they deserve a lot more respect than they get. Like I said, every track is sick, but my fav's would have 2 be "For Real", "All In My Mind", "Space Age Pimpin", "Top Of the World" and "Pimp in my own Rhyme". Check this out if u dont already got it!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite eightball and mjg cd., April 17, 2003

The main reason was the beats. They had a West Coast sound to them but was more funky, laid back, and spaced out. Eightball and Mjg also came hard on the lyrics backed each other up perfectly. I didn't find a filler on the CD. You got your typical gangsta type stuff and some positive songs about saying no to drugs (well at least the hard stuff), songs about true friends, politcal songs, and the most popular song about how women are manipulating men. Not your typical Dirty South music but a person who is more into West Coast might enjoy this a lot. It has that mid nineties psychotic sound that Dre and Dazz made popular. You can hear the southern influence which makes it unique.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my Top 10 Albums of All Time, November 24, 2011
This review is from: On Top of the World (Audio CD)
I am writing a review simple because there is only 10 reviews so far! This is such an amazing album. I know many people favor Coming Out Hard, which is a great album by the way. IMO I think this album is much better. Throughout the album you have 8ball and MJG spittin game over g-funk beats. Albums like this are why I listen to hip hop. I don't want to be one of those people who constantly says how hip hop is dead and how everything today is not as good as it used to be. However when I play albums like this I can't help but think that.

I tried to quote a few lyrics but they are all too explicit to post. Check out Space Age Pimpin. That is probably one of the best rap songs of all time. If I gave that song 10 stars, then every other track would easily get 8 and 9 stars. The entire album is great. Just buy it. I promise you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars 8 Ball & MJG..Sittin' on top of the world!, October 18, 2007

8 Ball & MJG do it again!

I purchased this cd and it came in a few days with no problems. This cd is off the meter! The songs on this cd will keep you bobbin' ya' head throughout it's entire play in your cd system. Pimp in my own rhyme is hot and the hook is so smooth it just makes you stop and groove. Space Age Pimpin is my favorite song...Basicially it's MJG mackin' to this female in a bar trying to get her to "choose" up on him with some pimpin lyric. I could go on but I'm not. Pick this one up and step ya' Pimp game up! "Lexus door's you be closin', when you become one of the chosen! Your mileage will vary! NEOSOUL06

5.0 out of 5 stars TOP album ever!!!, December 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: On Top of the World (Audio CD)
I love this album. This is the best of the Eightball & MJG album to date. I got joke on about this album and almost got in a fight over the titles that they use ... that should show you all something. This album still bumps in the ride. Don't even think about them east coast jams.
