Great purchase!,

Purchased this bag with the matching rack for our second bike, so now both my my husband and I both have one. We enjoy riding long distance charity road rides, and this set-up is perfect: take extra energy bars, ibuprofen, another T-shirt, or stash extra clothing. At home, my husband will make a run to the grocery store on his mountain bike, slip the bag off his rack, and pack it up in the store, slip it back on outside, and away he goes. It can be switched from bike to bike easily enough, and you look nice enough that we've been asked where we got ours. Like I said, the fact that we're on our 2nd rack and bag should be proof enough that this is a winning combo.

This trunk bag works SO well! I commute by bike, and this bag is so easy on and off. It holds all of my "stuff" and lunch besides. Great design, roomier than it looks, and good looking besides-it's perfect.

I ordered this bag the same day I ordered the Topeak Explorer Rack. I bought an entry-level Schwinn this spring in the face of $4 a gallon gas. I use my bike to commute (4 miles round trip), run errands around town (most everything within 7 miles one way), and short day rides. I would probably go with a bigger bag if I was doing longer trips. I like the zippered mesh pockets on the outside for things like granola bars, my poncho, and tools. The inside can fit a couple of books, an extra bottle of water, a towel, and my camera for a joy ride or a change of clothes and a pair of shoes for work. I wouldn't really expect to get $50 worth of groceries in it, but I have picked up the odd handful of items no problem. I detached the bag and carried it right into the store and didn't even have to bother with a plastic bag. It is not noticeable as far as weight, but I have not really pushed the 55 pound limit for the rack. A nice bag for the beginner, but more serious riders may want more.

Impressive quality and good looking but a tad bit smaller than I thought it would be. I'm keeping it though as I can fit everything that I will generally need to bring with me for trail rides. I bought it to go with the "Topeak Explorer Bike Rack" as it is a system and the bag slides and latches directly onto the rail built into the rack. Very nice. For comparisons sake here's what I fit into the bag: Two 1/2L bottles of water, keys, extra t-shirt and lightweight shorts, gloves, baseball cap (collapsed), small tool kit, sunglasses, bug spray & sunblock (small travel bottles), mini u-lock & cable and the shoulder strap that is included with the bag. In the mesh side pockets I keep my tire pump, a couple of energy bars and a bag of beef jerky. And even with all that there is still a little room left over plus you can strap items to the top and sides utilizing the bungee and velcro straps provided. All in all a very nice bag/rack system that I would heartily recommend.

Great bike bag but read below before buying,

This bike bag is used with their bike rack. So you really do need to buy both. What a great idea....a bike rack with a track that this bike bag slides onto. Great design and holds a lot of stuff. I keep my lock, tools, water bottle, sun screen inside. It does the job and more than I expected. Also priced right.

I guess I did not read the description...an adapter is required to PROPERLY use this. I will either buy the special adapter or adapt it to my bike rack.

Be prepared for smaller than you think. A small neat "trunk" just a couple of inches bigger than a lunch box or six pack cooler.
It is a well made item but the dimensions are wrong. I measured: 6 1/2 width 7 1/4 max height 12"L for outside dimensions. The inside dimension are smaller than that do to the reinforcing padding. The "capacity" appears to be correct. I just expected bigger especially since I think more in measurements of dimensions than volume/capacity. I have not tried it to see how well it snaps on and off the bike.

Great bag for slide mount lovers,

I already had an MTX slide mount and an MTX DXP trunk bag. I got the DXP bag for when I need to carry lots of stuff, and wanted a smaller bag for shorter trips where storage needs were less. So I ordered EX trunk bag and it's perfect. It's quick to insert and secure onto the rack, and quick to detach. And even though it's smaller than my DXP it's still pretty roomy. Another quality product from Topeak.

Perfect bag for day trips.,

I was looking for a bag that would work with my TopPeak Rack, that would not kill my budget and that would hold enough stuff for a day trip. This bag has performed as advertised and has met my excpectations. The TopPeak rack system is so easy to use, no bunge cords or straps just slide in and click. It is large enough to fit 6 12oz cans or 16 Oz plastic bottles ( like gatorade bottles ) 3 or 4 sandwiches and an extra shirt and shorts. There are zipped mesh sides for small stuff. perfect for going on a day trip. Not meant for multiday touring trips, Top Peak makes bigger trunkmout bags with and with out side compartments for that purpose. I compared other bags ( toppeak and non toppeak) and although they looked big in the pictures you really need to pay attention to the Cu. in. spec's of the bag. This bag is actually 20% larger than another I looked at even though the ad pictures made the smaller one look bigger. For the price, quality and function this is a very good deal.

I've just reviewed the rack that i use this bag with (Topeak Explorer Bike Rack), and much of what i wrote there also applies to the bag, so i'll repeat a few things here (parts i've copied have an asterisk):
Just to start off, i should say that i am not really a 'hardcore' cyclist. If you're the kind of person who can put an entire bike together from memory, or the kind of person who commutes every day on a 900$ road bike and always wears spandex, your level of commitment and bicycle knowledge is probably years ahead of mine. I know enough to be able to name all the parts on my bike and do light maintenance, but i don't ride every single day, i don't tour, and i find road bikes kind of intimidating.* That said, i like this bag a lot so far. The fabric and construction seem pretty high-quality and the whole thing feels very sturdy. There are reflecting stripes on the back for visibility, a weave of cord to hold irregularly shaped items on top of the bag, a shoulder strap, and a carrying handle. There is a mesh zip-up pocket on each side, the under-side of the lid has its own pocket, and then of course there's the large inner pocket. There are no built-in compartments, but the bag is roughly rectangular, so you could easily create your own. As far as how the bag attaches to the rack (see link above): There is a 'foot' on the bottom of the bag that slides into the rails on the bike rack, which holds the bag down and prevents it from moving side to side. Then there is a clip on the front of the bag that clamps down on the bar at the front end of the rack, which keeps it from sliding off the back. It seems very secure and there is almost zero movement.* My only complaint about the bag would be that it's not quite large enough to carry my purse or my netbook. But this is not really the bag's fault. Topeak make larger versions, including some with panniers, so i could have gone with them if i really wanted. But i'm cheap. :) |
