This unit has a nice large display and the normal functions that most other speedos have, so if you need reading glasses you won't have any trouble seeing the display, I would recommend it for that purpose only.

So, they lost a star: The little screw works its way loose, and the piece came crashing to the ground -- I fixed the loosening screw problem with a little athletic tape. The three pieces of info in the display are really awesome, plus the average times and whatnot are one button away while you're riding, which is very convenient. The display is huge -- I haven't seen anything like it. Plus the unit is really sort of super functional and makes the bike feel dialed. It does reset at 999, but the whole unit takes like three minutes to set up. The directions are basically without words, just pictures, so that I guess martians can understand them (but they must have college degrees). I'm really happy with it, and would buy it again, but cover that screwhead!

This little wireless computer has all the bells and whistles to help my husband optimize his bike trip to and from work every day. He loves to check average speed, fuel economy, and the like on his car's computer, and now he can do it on his bike too.

The whole point of going wireless was the move the computer to a spot I could see on the bike, but to finally get this to work it was almost on the tire itself and even a shorter distance than the wired unit that I had. Went to using my iPhone and a free app on that to track all my information, it worked out better than anything I tried. Ended up giving this unit away.

On a recent 50 mile bike tour, the odometer matched the cue sheet exactly to the tenth mile. The display is easy to read and its big button allows you to change modes easily. The speedometer is sensitive and measures in MPH or KPH.

Cons: No backlight and may need to refer to the instructions again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Large Display , Poor Instructions, September 7, 2010

This unit has a nice large display and the normal functions that most other speedos have, so if you need reading glasses you won't have any trouble seeing the display, I would recommend it for that purpose only.

The instructions are terribly difficult to understand, it took me an hour to set it up even after looking at the instructions for a while before I made the attempt.

Basically in the instructions are pictures that have very little explanation to them (the instructions are a HUGE poster, not a booklet). The sequence of the initial setup is not orderly, you must look all over the poster to figure out what step you've missed and even then it's not clear. I'm a Mechanical Engineer with a background in electronics so I'm very well versed in reading/developing/writing instructions and I've never seen anything like this, it's very confusing.

One side note, make sure that the magnet-trigger that attaches to the spoke is as close to the sending unit as possible without hitting it. If there is a 1/4 inch gap it will not work. I attached a small powerful ceramic magnet to the magnetic end of the triggering unit so that I could get some distance between the sending unit and the trigger. It now works with about 1/2 inch gap, I needed to do this because there is a metal bracket on my forks that was between the line of sight of the sending/receive units.

Best bike speedometer out there - good quality and love the large display. Can be a little confusing to set up as the instructions aren't super clear - but once you do it works great.
Have been using this for a couple years now to keep track of my rides - really the best out there. Good battery life too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tie strap is worthless!!!, December 22, 2007
This review is from: Topeak Panoram V12 12 Function Wireless Cycle Computer (Sports)
It might be a nice computer but the specialized tie strap that holds the magnetic pick up is unbelievably brittle. It snapped into pieces when I tried to attach it to my bike. This is a manufacturers defect. Don't waste your time buying this, you will just have to return it.
