Tired of carrying your spare clothes, bike tools, and groceries in a cumbersome backpack while you ride? Turn to the Topeak MTX DXP trunk bag, which boasts 1,380 cubic inches of storage space in a framework that attaches securely to the rear of your bike.

Cyclists can secure items within easy reach using the elastic top bungees.
Topeak's largest trunk bag, the MTX DXP offers ample storage space, with a divided main compartment and a two-stage expandable top, along with two side panels with expandable panniers. As a result, you can fit several smaller items into the main bag, or you can enlarge it to store additional gear, clothes, or snacks. The bag is also tough and long lasting, with rigid molded side panels and a flexible 600-denier polyester construction with a Dupont Teflon coating. And it's a breeze to attach the bag to your bike thanks to the MTX QuickTrack system, which is compatible with Topeak's MTX side frame (sold separately). You can even carry the trunk bag like a messenger bag using the included removable shoulder strap.

Other features include molded EVA foam insulation, a water bottle holder, a 3M reflective strip, a RedLite clip, and elastic top bungees. The MTX DXP bag, which is compatible with an optional Topeak rain cover, measures 14.5 by 8.5 by 9.8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 2.53 pounds.

About Topeak
Topeak has received an avalanche of awards and accolades since its founding in 1991. The company has developed such innovations as the JowBlow floor pumps with SmartHead technology, which sense and automatically adapt to Schrader and Presta valves without swapping out parts; the award-winning Morph series of mini pumps; the ALiEN multitools, which separate into different parts so cyclists can bring only the tools they need; and the Hexus mini tool and Bikamper personal shelter, which received the prestigious Red Dot award for outstanding design. The most important part of the Topeak story, however, is the passion of the founders and employees, who are cyclists, too. The company is dedicated to making the ride better, and focuses on creating products and accessories to help facilitate an escape from the traffic jams, cubicles, and mind-numbing meetings of everyday life.

I installed a Topeak rack (see my other review) and the bag has a proprietary sliding mount that makes the system easy to use.

Bought this bag, along with Topeak's Explorer rack, for commuting to work (20 mile round trip). Have been extremely pleased with the product thus far. Key observations:

+ Large capacity: Change of clothes, blackberry, etc. easily fit into the main compartment (I keep my work shoes at work). The side panniers provide considerable extra storage, as needed, for storing lunch, work files, jacket, etc.
+ Very functional: I highly recommend buying one of the Topeak racks with the MTX Quick Release features (such as the Explorer rack I purchased)...very easy to to slide bag on and off the rack and the bag is tightly secured when in use.
+ Quality construction: Only time will tell how the zippers hold up, but bag appears to be very durable and well-made.
+ Size/appearance: Since this is Topeak's largest trunk bag, was a little concerned it might look out of proportion on the bike and be heavy. But it looks fine, and it has not significantly altered the "drivability" of the bike.
+ Price: Amazon provided very competitive price and much lower than the local bike shops
- Rain cover extra: Maybe a little bit of a bummer that the rain cover is an extra accessory. I bought the rain cover, but a reasonable alternative is to just wrap your cargo in plastic bags if you're expecting rain. The trunk bag itself is not rain proof, so you will need some type of protection if you do not want your cargo to get wet.

Overall, extremely pleased with the product thus far and highly recommend it to those that want a convenient, durable storage option with considerable capacity.

This is a great bag, well constructed, large, and secures easily. I originally selected this bag for my work commute. I use this or the smaller one a purchased for my partner almost every time I am on my bike. I actually find that I bike more often because it is easier to run errands.
The only complaint/suggestion is a longer shoulder strap. When I carry the bag with full panniers I would like to sling it over shoulder but the strap is too short.

I've been trying to ride to work daily. I needed a bag that could hold a change of clothes and a laptop. This bag has worked out perfectly. It's so wonderful to know your bag and items are completely secure.

This is a great bag. I bought this to outfit my bike for commuting. I am a teacher and I can carry my books and a change of clothes plus lunch, a lock and a hat. Works great and stays in place. The only problem I had was that one time, the latch that holds it on the bike let loose and it slid back a little. I use zip ties for extra security now but it works great. I also have the topeak rack for disc brakes and plan on getting the handlebar bag. Fenders will definitely help with the road watter if it is in the rain. I do need to get the rain cover for mine. Buy it, load it, leave the car home!

I bike-commute to work, nearly 15 miles each way. I love feeling this bag tucked in behind me because it is the absolute best.

It is tough, durable, excellently made. Multiple zippers for different compartments and an expansion option. I detach it from the rack, attach the carrying strap, bring it into the office and use it like a briefcase.

This bag is all quality and is emminently practical. I use one of the pannier sides to put away a flannel shirt mid-ride. I also like the water-bottle holder built onto the back of the bag. One bottle on my bike frame and another on the bag... I'm set.

If you're a spandex-racer this is definitely too heavy and bulky. But if you're a commuter, especially a geeky one like me (cargo shorts, polyester polo shirt, bright yellow windbreaker, Keen clipless bike shoes) this bag is the cat's pajamas.

Oh yeah, I also got the rain cover Topeak Rain Cover for MTX Trunk. Not a lot of rain here in So Calif, but when not in use the rain cover folds up and out of the way. Smart option.

Everyone has such positive comments about this bag. I love this bag too but nothing is perfect and when I'm reading reviews on a product I might buy I like to hear what is wrong with it from people who have had problems before making a purchase. That being said here are the pros and cons--
PROS -plenty of space
-durable material
-like the pockets and elastic bands on top and at bottom of each side pannier
-like the ability to slide bag on rack

CONS -carrying handle is at top of bag and is supported by zipper(not good when bag has a heavy load)
-plastic piece on bottom of bag that slides onto rack will make clicking noise when riding on rough road or when riding over even small lines in cement on sidewalk and the whole plastic piece broke in half when I pulled too hard to try to slide bag off rack(probably my fault)
-bag has yellow spring loaded locking hook that hooks on to rack. Worked fine with my first bike and rack but after that bike was stolen my second bike and exact same rack, the hook would unhook when riding and start to slide off rack, solved this problem with a bungee going over entire bag which also solved clicking noise.

In summation the bag is great and with any product there will be problems. Overall I like it and would recommend it.
