I purchased three of these as I have more bikes than parking space in my garage. I mounted them side by side and learned a few things about the hardware. One is that you really have to find the studs in order to mount these bike hangers. The top screw attaching the mount to the wall carries virtually all of the weight of the bike and I don't think any drywall anchor will work adequately, although I notice that the installation kit includes drywall as well as wood screws. The good news is that for mounting multiple Topeak Wall hangers, the fact that studs are on 16 inch centers works out well as this is about how much room is needed to place multiple hangers along a wall, as long as you vertically stagger the height of adjacent hangers by 6 to 8 inches so that the handlebars don't get crossed up. One think you may not notice if you skip the directions is that the plastic cap that covers the hardware slides onto the side piece before being attached by a small screw. If you don't slide it on first, the plastic pulls away from the wall and doesn't look professional.

My one complaint is that the plastic guard that mounts on the wall to keep the rear tire from scuffing the paint isn't very effective. I mount a number of different bikes depending on season and usage, and bikes are of different lengths so didn't bother to put up that part. In this sense, the Saris Bike Trac is probably better as it has a long channel for both tires to fit. On the other hand, this one has the two hooks which are useful for hanging bike locks, Camelbacks, etc., in space that would be wasted.

I'am extremely satisfied w/ this product. It is made of strong and light material and easy to install. It looks great. I purchased 3 for my family needs, and I installed them in a row, at the same height. Approx. 13 inches apart, this way I saved overall width space and I hung the middle bike up-side down.

I decided to buy this bike hanger because I like the brand. Still, I was wondering why the price seemed to be higher than others. This question was answered as soon as I opened the box. The design is very good and all the metal parts and connectors are very high quality. Threaded parts were heavy duty and went together without a hitch. The picture leads you to believe that the hanger is mostly plastic, and it is; however, it doesn't show the base behind the plastic front that is solid metal. I had to hang on hollow drywall, but there were several attachment points, making it as sturdy as it will get for 1/2" thick.

I also liked the simplicity and flexibility for using the hanger. Mine is set about 1 inch off the floor, making it very easy to lift the wheel onto the holder. The rear wheel pad is a nice touch and aligns the bike perfectly. Very happy with this hanger and well worth the price.

UPDATE 10/19/2012: While I will stand my rating on this item, I have a caution...DON'T try to hang this in drywall. It worked fine for a few months, but today, it came crashing down during the night. The anchors simply did not hold securely enough in the drywall. My bike weighs about 21 pounds, and nothing else hangs on it. Fortunately, it did not fall into the car, which would have been a disaster for the paint on our new car. I am going to use a support board screwed into the studs to remount the hanger.

We bought two of these to hang mountain bikes on the wall of the garage. They function very well and haven't harmed our rims in any way. The hooks are a nice feature - we hang our Camelbak packs and helmets on the them. The rear tire pad works fine, too. Highly recommended.

These are nice-looking bike hangers, but not worth the cost or effort. The amount of time, effort and tools required to mount properly, as compared to a simpler hanger, or better yet, a $1 rubber-covered ceiling hook, completely overrides the minimal benefits gained through appearances. If you are going to purchase these, some words of warning: give yourself at least 18 inches between the top of the hanger and the ceiling or you won't be able to fit the wheel onto the hook. Also, know that you cannot reverse the hook so that the wheel hanger is on the left; the wheel guide cover will only mount on the hanger as shown, on the right. I wanted to hang my bikes a bit further apart to avoid tangling cables and handlebars, but wanted to utilize the space in between to hang equipment from the hooks -- no can do. Bottom line: I would not buy these again.

I installed two of these in the garage. They look great, and work fine. It is nice to have a rack for helmets and gloves included.

My gripe is the engineering. There are 3 different allen wrenches needed to assemble. One is huge, for the top wheel bar, one is medium for the side tool bar, and one is teeny for the plastic guard. None are included.

The screws are soft metal so the slots strip very quickly if you need to back out a screw. They provide 6 drywall anchors when only two are needed. Six anchors implies that the rack can be attached to drywall -- it cannot be. Use quality stainless inch-and-a-half screws to attach the rack to a stud. Only use drywall anchors for the two side screws (covered by the plastic guard in the picture). I found that a large flathead screw driver will hold the giant allen nut in place for tightening the wheel bar. The other two - good luck. For the price, allen wrenches should be provided as well as higher-quality screws.
