Considered by many to be the best, the Topical Memory System includes a course workbook, a book of verse memory cards, and a vinyl card holder. The course workbook is essentially a practical How-To book on memorizing Bible verses. One technique says to recite the reference both before and after reciting the verse, something I never considered doing before. Bible verses should not be memorized out of content. Thus, the book encourages you to read the passage the verse is in and to understand what the verse means. You get 60 verses in 8 versions for a total of 480 verses. However, you only have to memorize one version. To save paper, cards are printed on both sides with the same verse. You can just ignore the version you are not interested in. The verses are printed on perforated card stock sheets. You tear out the cards for the version of your choice. Each card measures 2½" x 1¾". Verses are not chosen at random but fit into different categories. The vinyl card holder has two pockets on one side and a clear pocket on the other. There is not much to it, does not fold over easily, and the cards could slip out easily. I recommend using a business card holder instead. Although a business card holder is slightly larger, it would do better than the included cheap vinyl holder. The Topical Memory System get four stars instead of five, because of the cheap card holder.

This means, of course, that you have to have your bible or verse cards available in order to use the system - a complete violation of the convenience of using Kindle.

Navigators could have done better. This seems to have been thrown together just to capitalize on the Navigator name.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Investment, March 10, 2008
This review is from: Topical Memory System (Paperback)
This has been helpful for me in connecting with God on a daily basis. I keep mine on the dash of my car so I can remember to review it every day. It's a pretty basic system. Not much to it. You have to commit yourself to spending time with it each day, but it's worth it. Since I started I've been able to recall a passage I had memorized to help me process through a problem I was having. It helped me a great deal to have that passage in my back pocket and know it word for word!

My girlfriend and I do this together, and we quiz each other from time to time. It's great for building a Christ-Centered relationship with the person you're with. It really puts the focus on God's word and helps us to stay focused on God when we feel tempted.

Such a great tool for scripture memorization! The booklet gives helpful hints and methods for committing the Word to memory, but the best part is that the system includes 8 translations and comes with a handy little case to carry with you anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Perfect way to memorize scripture, December 26, 2010
This review is from: Topical Memory System (Paperback)
With the end of the year coming near us, there are three things that I am focusing on, with this weeks books review.

1. Scripture Memorization

2. Devotional time

3. Reading the Bible

First of all, I wanted to focus on scripture memorization; The "Topical Memory System" is provided by the Navigator press and it's a 60 card verse set that is provided in the,"NIV", "NASB", "MSG", "ESV", "NRSV", "NLT", "NKJV", and the "KJV".

Along with it is a course workbook, verse card holder and a great incentive for you and the family to start the new year, memorizing scripture.

What I really enjoyed about the system is that it breaks it down by topics, for example, the first week of memorization is,Week 1 Series A (Live the New Life), and with the workbook, particularly if you are either working alone, in a group or in a homeschool setting.

Surprisngly basic, with the workbook, you are learning two verses a week, for thirty weeks and along with it, in the workbook itself, are quizzes, tips, and discussion questions that are included with each weekly Bible study; To make things even easier, courtesy of Ben Koch, the verses are set to music.

Memorizing scripture is something that I have been strongly convicted of as I recalled the verse," 11Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Psalm 119:11, King James Version)" and the "Topical Memory System" by Navpress provides a way to make it a resolution to hide His word in one's heart.

There's nothing gimmicky about the system; The verse card holder is strong and helpful for slipping it in the purse, briefcase or backpack for travel; There are choices of which version to use and the workbook is a great guide for those who may find memorizing anything, difficult.

So with the New Year almost upon us...what better way to start, than by memorizing His word.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most useful and effective tool for memorization, January 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Topical Memory System (Paperback)
In order for believers to grow in grace, the memorization of the Scripture is invaluable. Many have tried and failed. But this Navigator's "Topical Memory System" has been time-tested and proven effective.

1. It is a "system" -- this is not a collection of random verses without anything to hold onto. But it is structured in Gospel-centered framework. There is a purpose in organization of all these verses, so you will be able to remember AND use them more.

2. It is "topical" -- These 60 foundational verses for Christian life is arranged topically (i.e., 5 series consisting 6 topics each): Series (A) Live the New Life, (B) Proclaim Christ (C) Rely on God's resources (D) Be Christ's Disciple (E) Grow in Christlikeness. This could be great for both new and mature believers.

3. The product comes with most popular English versions of the Bible: NIV, NASB, KJV, ESV, NKJV, NRSV, NLT, and MSG. Very useful. Remember that older Topical Memory System Package: Hide God's Word in Your Heart does not have some of the newer Bible versions.

4. It also comes with study guide to review and practice the memorization. This is excellent, because it brings memorization into useful personal Bible Study. It also provides 2 diagrams to bring series (A) and (B) more impressionable to the mind.

5. It also comes with a vinyl pouch to put the memory cards. Outside pocket is transparent so you could conveniently memorize the verse.

I've tried The MacArthur Scripture Memory System (others might find it more suitable), but at least for me, it was not as effective as Navigators. If you are serious about memorization, this tool will help you achieve that goal. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource, January 2, 2011
This review is from: Topical Memory System (Paperback)
If your New Year's resolution is to memorize scripture, the Topical Memory System from the Navigators is a great resource. The kit comes with a workbook designed to help you learn methods to memorize Bible verses, a vinyl verse holder, and 60 verse cards in eight different translations.

This is a great resource for Christians of all ages. The verses and holder are a wonderful tool to help those wanting to commit portions of God's word to memory. Like any memory based system, it requires the individual to be committed to investing the time necessary to learn and remember. If you've got the desire, and the self-discipline, the Topical Memory system will be of great benefit! I highly recommend it.

The Navigator's also offer the VerseMinder Topical Memory app. I have it on my iPod touch and have really enjoyed it. It's great for when you're waiting in line or just passing the time. It will quiz you on the verses you have learned using a basic "fill in the blank" process. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to invest time in learning God's word. The app retails for around $4.

I received a complimentary copy of the system to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed are my honest thoughts of the product.

I purchased the paperback version of this system and I really like it. Recently, I purchased the kindle version, but cannot find the memory cards??? Maybe it is error on my behalf because I am still in the learning curve on the kindle. I would suggest this system to anyone who desires to hide God's word in their heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tool for Memorization and application, December 2, 2010
This review is from: Topical Memory System (Paperback)
I recently had the opportunity to review The Topical Memory System: Hide God's Word in Your Heart (TMS) from NavPress. The "system" is a book with rip out memory verse cards, a book of how to use the system, and a little pouch for holding the cards. The cards consist of verses from different categories and allows you to choose what version of the Bible you are using such as ESV, NIV, NKJV, etc.

The system is a weekly memory system, where each week you learn 2 Bible verses. The emphasis isn't just about memorizing scripture, but actually dwelling on the scripture and knowing what it means so you can apply it to your life. Of course, memorization is key, but knowing what it is you are memorizing is also important in using this system. The book helps you in meditating on these passages by asking questions to encourage you to think about the verses. By the end of using this system, you will not only know how to memorize scripture, but you will also know how to meditate on it and apply it to your everyday life. You will have learned 60 memory verses in about 8 months time!

The verses are not just random verses either. They are broken up into Series A, B, C, D, and E. You will learn verses about how to "Live the new life", how to "Proclaim Christ", how to "Rely on God's resources", how to "Be Christ's Disciple", and how to "Grow in Christlikeness". This is why it is called a "Topical Memory System". The book does a good job explaining why they chose this method in how to learn the memory verses.

Personally, I have always found it hard to memorize. This system is no exception. If you don't have the desire, it will always be hard to do it. With that said, I think the book and the rip out cards and the little pouch that you can carry with you are great ways to get you motivated and started. I can see this being a great resource for both young and old alike. I think the options of choosing which version to use is also wonderful. Who doesn't need more help memorizing scripture?

I think this is a great resource and an exceptionally good way to start memorizing and putting God's word in your heart.
