Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Topps Baseball Cards is a huge, expensive photo collection of all Topps cards issued since their inception in 1951. Each year's selections come with a brief summary of the season and its achievers, a price range of the cards, and a quiz. An overall index includes records. The portraits are about half actual size and vary in format and clarity. For libraries that can afford it, this dazzling book is an appealing browsing item; those wary of mutilation may restrict access. For a comprehensive price catalog The Sport Americana Baseball Price Guide (Edgewater Book Dists., Box 586, Lakewood, Ohio 44107) is preferred. Morey Berger, Monmouth Cty. Lib., Freehold, N.J.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Baseball Cards, May 18, 2009
By
This review is from: Topps Baseball Cards: The Complete Picture Collection (A 35-Year History, 1951-1985) (Hardcover)
I was made aware of this book about 20 years ago, but at $100, it was a bit pricey for me at that time. I collect baseball cards, and I have a friend who is now retired, with a lot of time on his hands. He loves baseball, but doesn't have the means, nor the desire to start collecting cards. He said to me, "wouldn't it be nice if they had a book that showed all the baseball cards in it." It reminded me of this book, and I looked it up on Amazon, and found 2 used ones. (One is for me, of course!)
When I gave this to him, his comment was that "this is better than the baseball cards." The "used" books were in beautiful condition, and the prices were excellent. Needless to say, we are each enjoying this purchase.

This review is from: Topps Baseball Cards: The Complete Picture Collection (A 35-Year History, 1951-1985) (Hardcover)
I like this book because it has all the baseball cards reproduced, although the images are small, looks smaller than the Surf Books, but upon measuring, the size is the same. I guess they have to be small to limit the number of pages and size of book, although the book as it is is still a hefty volume. It's hard to find a bookshelf to hold it. Before each year featured it reviews the season and offers trivia too.
