A charming book of carton images where the interpretation depends on your perspective,
By Charles Ashbacher (Marion, Iowa United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Topsys and Turvys (Paperback)
Newell uses a cartoon art form that utilizes the same human perception characteristics that allows for optical illusions. Each image in this book presents a specific interpretation, aided by a caption, when viewed and then a different one when inverted. Sometimes it is necessary to stare at the image for a moment in order to see what the caption claims, but eventually it will "appear." Full of light amusement, this book is impressive in the level of thought that Newell had to put into each image in order to obtain his desired result.
