This review is from: Torah and Commentary: The Five Books of Moses: Translation, Rabbinic and Contemporary Commentary (Paperback)
I have the first book. I enjoyed it very much. I bought this book and I was not disappointed. I like this book it has the torah portion plus it has the commentary.your getting two books in one. I enjoy reading the torah portion in this book. This book can be read by young people and also for the adults who want a simple explanition of things. Not a whole book explaining one meaning. I totally enjoy this book. Thanks for writting it and Todah Rabah.

5.0 out of 5 stars An impressive body of scholarship, October 9, 2008
This review is from: Torah and Commentary: The Five Books of Moses: Translation, Rabbinic and Contemporary Commentary (Paperback)
The Torah, consisting of the five books whose authorship is commonly attributed to Moses, is a bedrock foundation of for the three main branches of Judaism (Orthodox, Conservative, Reform). Traditionally divided into 543 weekly portions for chanting as part of the Sabbath service in the synagogue, "Torah And Commentary: The Five Books Of Moses" offers a new translation of the Torah is enhanced with the inclusion of interpretations by classical era and modern rabbinic commentators for more than 2,000 biblical passages. Of special note are the colored illustrations as part of the biographical sketches of some of the most highly regarded commentators (including Rashi and Maimonides), as well as Sol Scharfstein's own commentaries relevant to the contemporary message of selected biblical passages. "Torah And Commentary: The Five Books Of Moses" is an impressive body of scholarship and very highly recommended for personal, synagogue, academic, and community library Judaic Studies reference collections and supplemental reading lists.
