5.0 out of 5 stars ACCURATELY TRANSLATED; VERY CONSISTENT
The translator of this version of "The Torah" deserve commendation for a job well-done. Its accuracy is consistent with the original Jewish scripts, from which it emanated. Also, the translator did his best in sticking to contemporary English: thus, making it easy for readers to understand.
I would readily recommend this version to any English speaker who has...

I would readily recommend this version to any English speaker who has interest in the book. Both Jews and non-Jews who know one or two things about The Bible (i.e.: the Old Testament), and/or The Koran, would not read long before inferring that the spiritual accounts narrated in these holy books have got more similarities than differences.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT a New King James Translation..., May 13, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Torah (Hardcover)
This is an obviously carefully researched translation that adheres to Jewish texts, rather than the twice-translated greek that European Bibles descend from. Note the entirely different translation of the First Commandment, using "murder" instead of "kill", an all-important distinction in every way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good translation, August 4, 2006
This review is from: The Torah (Hardcover)
I bought this as I'm beginning to study Judaism in my spiritual journey. The book is very well translated and includes recommendations for readings on holidays. There are also pictures throughout the book from various times and locations.

I'm also very pleased with this since it's in a paragraph format (as someone who's only read the "Hebrew Bible" as part of the Old Testament I like the ease of reading with the paragraph format).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

5.0 out of 5 stars Bless Rabbi Mariner!, May 11, 2009
This review is from: The Torah (Hardcover)
As a psychologist who conducted my dissertation research on the importance of spirituality in our lives, I studied a wide variety of world religions. As a non-Jew, I have always been drawn to the Jewish faith, and have longed for years to read the Torah in its original Hebrew. I realized, however, that studying Hebrew to that end would take years of study and hoped to find, consequently, an accurately translated Torah in the English language. Blessings on Rabbi Mariner for answering my prayers! As someone who was raised in the Protestant religions, I am readily able to detect the differences between the versions of The Five Books of Moses (Genesis through Deuteronomy) I have previously read. Consequently, I feel for the first time in my life that I am truly reading the Word of God.

Your published review says that this is the King James version. That is totally wrong. It is the JPS version and they are vastly different.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, NOT King James Version Translation, March 7, 2008

This review is from: The Torah (Hardcover)
Beautiful hardcover book with gorgeous period art and photos. Insightful introduction by the rabbi, I cannot speak for the quality of the translation as I do not have other Torahs to compare to but it seems well done to me.

NOTE: There has been a bit of confusion as to which translation it is, it is the JPS (Jewish Publication Society) NOT the KJV (King James Version), if you want further information about the differences between the two, I suggest dong your research.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Torah by Rabbi Rodney J. Mariner, April 14, 2010

This review is from: The Torah (Hardcover)
Even though this is not an English/Hebrew book, its beatiful images disposed in between the passages of the text made it worth every penny. Really great selection of artworks and concise but faithful translation make this book a superb acquisition. I would recommend for everyone interest interested in Jewish religion and/or Jews in Diaspora that are not fully acquainted to Hebrew language. Indeed, it surpassed my expectatives for the price. Great cover, unusual pages and other features made this book an easy choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great version of King James Torah, January 13, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The Torah (Hardcover)
It is one of the most beautiful books of the Torah I have seen. It merely contains the King James translation of the Torah, but the beautiful cover and extravagant pictures make it one of the best Torah books around. This book is a must for any religious enthusiant.
