5.0 out of 5 stars A rhyming picturebook intended for Jewish parents to share with their children, May 18, 2009
This review is from: Torah Tigers (Hardcover)
Torah Tigers is a rhyming picturebook intended for Jewish parents to share with their children, as it emphasizes the valuable role that Judaic spiritual beliefs can play in fostering a good parent-child relationship, and in raising young people to be responsible and productive citizens. Above all, faith holds the power to keep one calm, steady, and prepared to make the best decisions amid trying or frustrating obstacles. Witnessing one's parents remain rock-solid models of discipline is the best way to pass on discipline to the next generation, and the power of faith is the key. Thus do parents and children become "Torah Tigers", examples of positive behavior. "When Mommy informed me she needed a hand - / And I couldn't play with my friend as I'd planned... / At first I was sad - I did NOT want this chore! / I NEED my free time (like my friend from next door)! // But deep down I knew that my Mommy comes first, / And old Mr. Yetzer was up to his worst. / I DID do the chore. I did NOT go to play. / My ruchnius muscles got stronger that day!" Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Torah Tigers, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Torah Tigers (Hardcover)
This picture book of short stories in rhyme is based on Dr. Adahan's "victory method" which she explains in her introduction. The intended audience is observant Jewish families. The adorable hand drawn and brightly colored illustrations portray a family in which the youngest is dressed as a tiger. Each relative; siblings, parents and grandparents, then must overcome a challenge, be it taking medicine, sitting nicely for the dentist, or having the young "tiger" color in a school notebook. As each relative controls his/her temper or completes the challenge, they are praised. The stories are intended to be read as encouragement for children as they, too, overcome challenges in life. Children can easily relate to the stories and the educational message that Dr. Adahan promotes. Adahan has succeeded in bringing her parenting philosophy to a level that that children can understand. These stories are appropriate for ages 3-8. Drora Arussy

5.0 out of 5 stars Stories for Children Magazine 5 Star Review, July 25, 2009
This review is from: Torah Tigers (Hardcover)
TORAH TIGERS is a charming book written by Dr. Miriam Adahan, who is a counseling psychologist. The purpose of this book is to teach children how to make good choices in everyday life situations. Dr. Adahan's VICTORY METHOD is a great child-rearing tool. This method shifts a parent's emphasis from criticism to reinforcement. Dr. Adahan even teaches you to record every accomplishment your child has, no matter how small.

This book is written in rhyme and accompanied by fun, kid-friendly illustrations. My favorite part of the illustrations is looking for the little red bird that's in almost every illustration to see what he's doing.

This is a wonderful book that features great examples for children (and parents) to learn from. I give it a high-five for the great rhyming prose in a learning-lesson format and truly fun illustrations. This book is a keeper!
