3.0 out of 5 stars Well written but the plot is weak, July 19, 1999
By A Customer
This was the first and only book I have read by Womack and it did not impress me very much. The characters and dialogue were well done but the plot is very weak and overly simplistic. The solution to the case just falls right into the detective's hands without him having to figure anything out. All in all, somewhat of a disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great job, Steve, May 7, 2007

This review is from: Torch Town Boogie (Paperback)
My high school buddy (the author) has turned out another fine Harry Denton novel - this time involving an arsonist and a fire right across the street. Some reviewers have complained about a weak plot. They fail to see that the author is not attempting one of those 800 page psychological mysteries that stretch from New York to Los Angeles.

His aim is to entertain and enlighten and he does both. You always learn something with each book and in this case it is the details of arson. This time the trouble arises from his ex wife when her lover and soon-to-be husband is murdered and burned. Our intrepid investigator leaves no stone unturned in his search for the man behind the crimes and the conclusion is chilling despite the humorous aspects. Great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars What do you mean....., July 20, 1999
By A Customer
What do you mean, falls into the detectives hands? He had to work to get the evidence, which was illegal to obtain, and sometimes, things in life just hit us, coming from nowhere. I personally loved this second edition into the Harry Denton series. As a writer myself, I am never any good at filler, but Steven makes it look like icing on the cake. The dialogue and story line were as crisp and tight as ever, and the solution was not only probable, but scary as hell. I read the last fifty pages in twenty minutes! Steven, pat yourself on the back for another outstanding book! I can't wait for "Way Past Dead!"
