Speaking Truth to Power, February 20, 2002
This review is from: A Torchlight for America (Paperback)
As a middle-aged, college educated, white man I find it amazing that I cannot find critism with Rev. Farrakhan. After all the propaganda against him I was prepared to hate the man. Then I actuallly read him. And I listened to his entire sermon on C-SPAN, not just once, but twice. The man speaks with righteousness- not self-righteousness, but the righteousness of God. From my own studies and sources I know that he speaks the truth. If he has a hidden agenda, other than speaking truth to power, I do not see it. This man has the Spirit within him and there is no guile to his words. I could have remained anonymous here, but I choose to acknowlege a great man. And no, I am not a Muslim, nor do I plan to convert....

Not only a "Torchlight For America", but the world!, June 12, 2001
This review is from: A Torchlight for America (Paperback)
This book was amazing as I read through the captivating pages. As a social scientist living in Japan I believe that this is a must read as well as one to be translated. As a student and teacher I found the statistics to be quite informative, concise and worth adding to my bibliography for an upcoming book I am finishing. This book is a must read for any any nation desperately trying to survive (including America) in this 21st century!

THE ONLY BOOK ATTRIBUTED TO MINISTER FARRAKHAN, December 23, 2010
This review is from: A Torchlight for America (Paperback)
Louis Farrakhan (born 1933 as Louis Eugene Walcott) was the leader of the Chicago-based Nation of Islam from 1981 until 2007, when health issues forced him to reduce his role.
He writes in the Preface to this 1993 book, "This book represents some of the guiding principles taught to us by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. This man and his teachings have been responsible for transforming the lives of millions of black men and black women, many of whom this society had rejected as incorrigible, irredeemable, irreformable, irretrievable, hopeless, and lost. Yet, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, with the Word of Allah (God), has been able to initiate the process of our salvation, redemption and resurrection, which continues to this day."
Here are some quotations from the book:
"I'm happy to see the brothers and sisters in sports and entertainment making money. However, I am appealing to them, what are you doing with the money to help your people? What kind of opportunity is paraded before our young, when there are only about a thousand positions for our talented sports figures but there are millions of black children suffering, who can never become professional athletes to escape from their condition?" (Pg. 38)
"Certainly a business would not want to come to a city where crime is rampant. However, whenever there is a substantial presence of influence by members of the Nation of Islam, a relatively crime-free area develops. A peaceful atmosphere has to be returned to the cities in order for business to feel secure in returning. We can help establish that peaceful atmosphere in the cities." (Pg. 79)
"The fact is that due to the high rate of recidivism, most of the street crime in this country is perpetuated by the same set of people. Instead of being reformed, a substantial number of people are recycled through committing crime and then being incarcerated again and again... We have an idea for addressing the problem of crime and reforming the so-called criminal..." (Pg. 115)
"I am not asking the government to make Africa the dumping ground for America's rejects. I am asking that American support us in first reforming the so-called criminal element among our people, and then placing them in an environment that will manifest their hidden gifts and talents." (Pg. 118)
"Recently we received a contract to partol a Los Angeles apartment complex. In just two months the police reported that crime decreased 75%. What do we have that the police don't have? We love our people." (Pg. 122)
"Am I really an anti-Semite? Am I really a hater? Can these charges be proven? When people disagree, the intelligent and rational thing to do is to have a dialogue. Perhaps through dialogue differences can be reconciled." (Pg. 157)
