Book Description

March 3, 2011 BBC Audio
Kai Owen reads this exclusive audio adventure. It's not easy being Rhys Williams. You're married to the sexiest woman in Torchwood. She saves the world for a living, you move lorries round in a timely fashion. Suddenly, you've got a mystery of your own. Oh, it starts off being about missing fridges. But it leads to a midnight train pulling into an abandoned platform at Cardiff Station. What is the mysterious cargo that Rhys is unloading from the train? Where's it going? And what can be behind it? Rhys Williams is going to get to the bottom of it. All by himself, thank you very much. Soon Captain Jack is missing, his wife's dead, and it's up to Rhys to try and put everything right. And find those fridges...Written specially for audio by James Goss, "Ghost Train" is set before the 'Children of Earth' TV story and features Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones, as played by John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd in the hit series from BBC Television. It is read by Kai Owen, who plays Rhys.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this, March 12, 2011

This review is from: Torchwood: Ghost Train (BBC Audio) (Audio CD)
I really enjoyed this, its one of the best Torchwood stories I've come across. Parts of it are very funny. Great insight into Rhys as he tries to unravel the mystery of the disappearing fridges, and how that fits into several crisis that TW are dealing with. But its not just for Rhys fans (although he is the main character), all the TW cast (Gwen, Jack and Ianto), have important parts in the story (to say more about where in the story the others mainly appear would be spoilery).

If anyone is missing the 'fun' side of TW, then this is well worthwhile getting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jhaeman's Review, April 6, 2011

Ghost Train is one of the two new Torchwood audio books released last month. Set prior to Children of Earth but after the end of Season Two, Ghost Train has a fun twist: it's told first-person from Rhys' perspective and narrated by actor Kai Owen. The idea works quite well and makes for a fun book, as Rhys fits well as a slightly comic "everyman" in contrast to Torchwood's high heroics. The story starts with Rhys discovering that several refrigerators have disappeared while being delivered by the haulage company he works for. Gwen is busy dealing with near-apocalyptic conditions in Cardiff, so Rhys decides to investigate by himself and stumbles upon an obsolete-looking train making a stop at a platform that has been out of use for decades. From there, we have aliens, doppelganger assassins, interstellar travel, time-jumps, and all the hallmarks of the Doctor Who universe of which Torchwood is a part. The other characters--Gwen, Ianto, and Captain Jack--have some nice moments and clever dialogue, making for a fast-moving story with a good premise. The only thing to be aware of is that Ghost Train is fairly short: just over two hours long. Still, it's more entertaining than the other Torchwood audio books available, and worth picking up.

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth the money, March 3, 2011
This review is from: Torchwood: Ghost Train (BBC Audio) (Audio CD)
They are still trying to sell Torchwood audio books by including Ianto in them, but he is not even a main focus of the story. The main focus is on Gwen, either actively or passively (like with this book where Rhys is trying to find out what happened to Gwen). Not worth the money either, you can read excellent fan fiction for free anywhere on the internet.
