5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new, but a quality book with plenty of details.
As a big fan of Boontje from about five years ago, there was no doubt that I would purchase the book in a heartbeat if I saw it in the stands. If you've gone to his site more than once, have a passion for floral designs, hyper-graphics, or just loves the Garland Light, Midsummer Light, or other products of his, I am sure you'd enjoy this book. The fabric-mesh cover with...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty.
This book is pretty, yea, I'll give it that and agree with the other reviewers. It has innovative text stock and cover treatments. Otherwise, I've seen better "design" books that spark all sorts of inspiration. I guess because I didn't know of the artist before purchasing, I wasn't that impressed. If I had known who he was and was a fan of his work, it probably would have...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new, but a quality book with plenty of details., June 28, 2007
This review is from: Tord Boontje (Hardcover)
As a big fan of Boontje from about five years ago, there was no doubt that I would purchase the book in a heartbeat if I saw it in the stands. If you've gone to his site more than once, have a passion for floral designs, hyper-graphics, or just loves the Garland Light, Midsummer Light, or other products of his, I am sure you'd enjoy this book. The fabric-mesh cover with half die-cut pages (of course, in a floral pattern), and full bleed high-quality photos on a thick paper all make this heavy-duty coffee-table book worth its damage. Despite having roamed the internet for everything Boontje, there are personal photos, his influences, detail photographs of his chandeliers (and other products), and plenty of information that has not been published elsewhere - so if you think you've seen it all, well - there is more! If you are unfamiliar with Boontje, I would recommend going to his homepage, seeing if you're even remotely interested in his design, and would consider buying his monologue if you like them since his products have already turned into a 'classic' of our time (see MoMA store and others).

5.0 out of 5 stars gorgeous!, August 29, 2008
This review is from: Tord Boontje (Hardcover)
I fell in love with Tord Boontje when I saw his Midsummer Light. Since then, I have scoured the internet for his other pieces and have only come to love his work even more. It's very ethereal, whimsical, and feminine in an airy, fairy tale kind of way.

I bought this book now knowing exactly what to expect, but it is gorgeous. It is obvious that a lot of thought when into creating this book, from the numerous photographs and extensive text to the textured cover and punched designs. The thought and design that went into this book reflect his overall aesthetic very well.

I enjoyed seeing photos of his work, his studio, his family, and his installations. The text gave a lot of information about his childhood and how he became to be a designer. I only wish there had been MORE pictures and MORE information on his creative process.

The only down side to this book: it's pretty heavy and when I put it on my lap, my legs get numb after about fifteen minutes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book!!, November 30, 2007
This review is from: Tord Boontje (Hardcover)
The cover of the book has a beautiful textural overlay that is not mentioned in any of the descriptions. Also, all of the pages are perforated with Boontje's own designs. I am extremely picky, and I got way more than I expected out of this incredibly beautiful book! The books goes over all of his work, including the stunning visual displays he did for Target a couple of years ago. A must have for anyone who loves Bontje's work.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tord Boontje (Hardcover)
This book is absolutely exquisite, it is a must for those who love cutouts, textured paper, furniture design, and fine art. Tord starts with a Foreward it is a document which started by "taping blankets to chairs made from sticks and cutting up old wine bottles..." I agree with his idea that design should not only communicate not only who we are, but also how we would ideally like our world to be... this book is just gorgeous.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic visual experience, January 29, 2008
This review is from: Tord Boontje (Hardcover)
I haven't even gotten around to reading the text in this book yet; the imagery alone makes it worth the purchase. A wonderful catalog of all of Boontje's works and projects, with amazing pictures. The mesh wrapping over the cover and the perforated pages make this book that much more unique.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book - fantastic value!, January 6, 2008
This review is from: Tord Boontje (Hardcover)
I have wanted this book since I first heard about it but found the cost ($130 Australian)prohibitive. I was delighted to find a new copy on Amazon for less than half that price. The book is stunning - the hole punched pages and the mesh cover are special features. The text is informative and interesting and gives a great insight into this awesome designer. Of course, the photos of his work are wonderful.
