3.0 out of 5 stars fun to play but something's missing...
I love to play piano and I was thrilled to get Tori's book of sheet music. However I was disappointed to see that a lot of the piano music had been modified from her original work. Many arrangements of popular music tend to incorporate the vocals and other instruments into the piano piece (in order to hear the melody or another aspect of the song) and this is the case...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Overview of Tori's Music, March 25, 1999
This review is from: Tori Amos: Anthology (Paperback)
I got this as a gift and was thrilled. The songs included are Silent All These Years, Happy Phantom, Mother, Precious Things, Winter, Cornflake Girl, Baker Baker, The Waitress, Past the Mission, Space Dog, Caught a Lite Sneeze, Professional Widow, Father Lucifer, Hey Jupiter, Putting the Damage On, Floating City, Etienne, Sweet Dreams, Take to the Sky, Honey, Mary, Baltimore, Rubies and Gold, Spark, and Northern Lad. An excellent compilation. Even for the player with very little experience, many of the songs are well within reach, notably Take to the Sky, Professional Widow, Putting the Damage On, and Silent All These Years. A great place to start with Tori sheet-music. Well transcribed with the possible exception of Cornflake Girl's rhythms, but this is easily corrected with the trained ear. Buy it! =)

I love to play piano and I was thrilled to get Tori's book of sheet music. However I was disappointed to see that a lot of the piano music had been modified from her original work. Many arrangements of popular music tend to incorporate the vocals and other instruments into the piano piece (in order to hear the melody or another aspect of the song) and this is the case with these arrangements too. Although sometimes I agree that doing this may make the piece sound better when played alone (without vocals or other instruments) I wish they would have note-for-note what is actually in the original version of Tori's songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable!, December 30, 1999
This review is from: Tori Amos: Anthology (Paperback)
Although I couldnt understand many of these translations because i`ve only been playing a short while I still am very pleased. The melody for Winter is a little easier to play. Hey Jupiter is easier to play using the basic chords and notes. A very good pianist freind of mine was able to play Silent All These Years beautifully as well as a little of Mother. The songs are different from the what she plays which is dissappointing. Theres alot of nice photos of Tori Amos.I really only recommend this to someone with either the talent or passion for piano and not just a fan.:)Songs also included are Precious Things,Spark,Cornflake Girl,BakerBaker,Happy Phantom,Honey,Mary, as well as many other favorites.

for all you Tori fans out there, this is an excellent compilation of some (not all, unfortunately) of her best songs, most notably "Silent All These Years," "Precious Things," and "Winter." the songs show her development as a singer/songwriter, and while they are somewhat toned down, (especially "Cornflake girl"), it is still a great book for people who want to add to their collection of Tori Amos sheet music.

4.0 out of 5 stars To Start..., August 27, 2004
This review is from: Tori Amos: Anthology (Paperback)
I have been teaching myself piano for about 8 or 9 months, so am relatively inexperienced; thus, i expected i wouldn't be able to play anything in this book, and had ordered it for future use. I was wrong, however, and am actually able to play bits and pieces of several songs. 'Winter' is pretty simple, though, for me, the accompaniment took a bit getting used to. 'Professional Widow' is also fairly easy. Point being, even beginners can use this book. The transcriptions, as said, have been dumbed-down for many songs, but a talented enough pianist can improvise, anyhow. I recommend this book to get started on, it's really wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thus far the best published sheet music collection, November 15, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tori Amos: Anthology (Paperback)
I have several books of Tori Amos music, but I bought this for some of the harder to find pieces. Overall, this is my favorite book and the one I play out of the most. I have played piano for a few years but am not very skilled - however I can work my way through most of the music. Some of the songs require more work (Caught a Lite Sneeze, Space Dog) and some like Mother, Putting the Damage On and Winter are pretty easy. I play several instruments and have been able to adapt the music easily to guitar and flute. The only thing I haven't really liked is that since Tori Amos supposedly never writes down music, this doesn't translate to printed versions of audio recording. However, I have seen her live many times and every time each song changes, so a written version of any song is given to improvisation.

5.0 out of 5 stars i love this book, December 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Tori Amos: Anthology (Paperback)
this is the best book you could buy as long as you can read and play paino music. it has songs from the albums little earthquakes under the pink boys for pele and from the choirgirl hotel it also has music from the rarefied y kant tori read album. If you cant read and play piano music than the book is preaty much useless to you except for the small amount of pictures and lyrics to the songs

I have this book, not only are there plenty of songs in the book, but they are a bit more difficult. You are not getting the way too easy boring version. I highly recommend this book.
