4.0 out of 5 stars Great pictures but little information on Tori, the person.
I gave this book four stars though I was thoroughly disappointed. It had great color pictures, a tour itinerary, a discography (Up to _Boys for Pele_, the book was published right after that album), and, of course, wonderful "Tori-isms." However, it was painfully obvious that this was an authorized biography. Not that I want 500 pages of pure dirt on Tori,...

3.0 out of 5 stars All These Years is short, yet pleasing.
I found this book was entertaining, however it was very short. I enjoyed the photos, as all Tori fans would, but there was nothing about her miscarriage, marriage, or her new album, From The Choirgirl Hotel. It was very well written, and intriguing as well. Good job Kalen Rogers!

This review is from: Tori Amos: All These Years: The Authorized Biography (Paperback)
Not that I want 500 pages of pure dirt on Tori, but this was more sanitized than most of her interviews. The hyperbole that Rogers (the author) sprinkles throughout makes you feel she is more a fan than an author. Not that is a bad thing in itself, but it makes you doubt the validity of many recounted episodes (was the show breath-taking or was Rogers' breath taken away?) Also, many facts that Tori fans know off-hand are glossed over. Eric Rosse is referred to as her producer throughout and only once, when Rogers briefly covered the development of _Pele_, did she mention that they "separated." If you aren't a Tori fan, you might think Rogers meant professionally, not personally. This sort of omission made me wonder what else was left out.

So: If you want good pictures and and overview of the nuts and bolts of Tori's rise, then this is great book. But if you want to know more about Tori as a person and her life, then this book doesn't contain anything you don't already know. A must for fans, a good start for new fans, but pass if you want something comprehensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tori's biography by Kalen Rogers is nice and informative, October 4, 1999

This review is from: Tori Amos: All These Years: The Authorized Biography (Paperback)
This biography by Kalen Rogers on Tori is worth the money for any Tori fan; it has many pictures of her from her childhood and other previously unseen pictures, as well as interesting stories from her toddler days through Boys for Pele. It was written before the miscarriage, marriage, and "Choirgirl" era so that is not included, but is is well worth the money for the other three solo albums and especially the YKTR days :) It's a wonderful book :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written, informative, and a Tori photo treasure-trove, August 10, 2002
By
This review is from: Tori Amos: All These Years: The Authorized Biography (Paperback)
I didn't have very high expectations when I bought this book. Tori Amos is notoriously coy, cryptic, and evasive with interviewers, so I expected a pretty but unenlightening volume riddled with errors (in the tradition of the Tori Amos interview CDs). I was pleasantly surprised. The biography is well-balanced and gives Tori's formative childhood years as much weight as each era of her career. To my surprise, I learned a couple of things I didn't know about Tori. The photographs are beautiful, and what a treat it was to see so many showing young "Myra Ellen" and her family!

The one drawback I can see is that this book was published in 1996, and thus is missing Tori's three most recent albums, as well as her marriage and the birth of her daughter. Perhaps we can hope for an updated edition in the future.

A well written and in-depth look at Tori Amos. The pictures are wonderful and quite beautiful, and it's nice to see so many of her earlier days. The book gives a lot of insight into her life and songs, and is something all die hard Tori fan should own.

5.0 out of 5 stars An insightful look at the life and career of Tori Amos., May 8, 1997

This review is from: Tori Amos: All These Years: The Authorized Biography (Paperback)
For me, it all started with seeing a little red-haired fairy twirl around in a wooden box...my curiosity was peaked. This book answered many of my questions about Tori and gave me a strong insight into her songwriting. For anyone who enjoys Tori's music, they will also enjoy reading about her amazing childhood and her wonderful, supportive family. This is definitely a must-have in any fan's Tori collection. I've read all the Tori books and so far, this is the most comprehensive of them. Actually, most of the other ones rip off from this one!! Hope you enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars A very well put together "bio" of a very complex artist, January 26, 2000
This review is from: Tori Amos: All These Years: The Authorized Biography (Paperback)
Anyone who loves Tori knows that to know her, you've got to listen to the music, feel it, recognize what in yourself echoes in response, and then find your own voice and use it. This book skims the lovely surface of that which is Tori, but through no fault of its own, falls short in capturing all that is the essence of Tori.

But, there's something nice about a coffee table worthy book that is stylish in presentation. And being a Tori fan, I consider this book an important addition to my library.

4.0 out of 5 stars A provocative bio that clearly describes Tori's life., September 4, 1999

I thought the bio was very informative it began with vivid descriptions of Tori's strict Christian upbringing, to her relentless strength to pursue her magical gift as a child piano prodigy. I have been a devoted fan of Tori's music since her initial autobiographical album Silent All These Years. The author goes into detail about her rise to success and the egotistical male dominated record industry that was ignorant to how unique her first demos were. I would adamantly encourage other fans of Tori's music to read this bio. The bio also includes unseen pictures of Tori.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coffensionings of a Choirgirl, March 28, 1998
By
This review is from: Tori Amos: All These Years: The Authorized Biography (Paperback)
The book, an autobiography of the most amazingly wonderful singer/song-writer/pianist Tori Amos, is stunning. If you're a fan of Tori Amos, which I happen to be, you need to buy and read this book. It is absolutely fascinating. I've read it once, and plan to read it again and again. It, as well as her music, is mesmerizing. Another biography is coming out soon that will have a section in it about her upcoming album, "From the Choirgirl Hotel." I am anxiously awaited the bio and, most of all, the album...

I very much enjoyed this book. Besides all the information, which is thorough and extends from her childhood through Boys For Pele, there are the many pictures, which are beautiful and will be greatly enjoyed by any fan of Tori's. I would definently recommend this book to any fan, and anyone who wants a glimpse of the goddess's life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and beautiful book on an amazing and beautiful woman, January 4, 2000

This review is from: Tori Amos: All These Years: The Authorized Biography (Paperback)
Tori Amos is by far one of the most talented female singer, songwriters, and musicians of the 90`s. This book is filled with various pictures of Tori during her humble upbringings as well as the periods when she wasn`t famous and just trying to make it big in music. Great biograpghy and information on Tori. Filled with alot of passion and enthusiasm which every fan will enjoy. A wonderful companion to understanding her music because it goes into Tori`s ideas for each album and what she was going through emotionally while writing songs for all of her albums up to Boys For Pele.Especailly enjoyed the background for her Under the Pink album. Also includes a tour log and discograghy.
