5.0 out of 5 stars To Venus And Back Sheet Music, February 12, 2000
This review is from: Tori Amos: To Venus and Back (Paperback)
This is an amazing sheet music book featuring the sheet music for each song from Tori's latest CD "To Venus And Back". The book includes all 11 studio songs (Bliss, Juarez, Concertina, Glory Of The 80's, Lust, Suede, Josephine, Riot Poof, Datura, Spring Haze and 1000 Oceans) and studio versions of the 13 live tracks on the album (Precious Things, Cruel, Cornflake Girl, Bells For Her, Girl, Cooling Mr. Zebra, Cloud On My Tongue, Sugar, Little Earthquakes, Space Dog, The Waitress and Purple People). A must have for any musical Toriphile.

5.0 out of 5 stars ears with feet, February 25, 2000
This review is from: Tori Amos: To Venus and Back (Paperback)
some of the music in this book is wonderfully transcripted, but then sometimes it is not. it depends on how much the music for the song was centered around the piano. great transcription of Lust, Concertina, Spring Haze, 1,000 Oceans, and some others. I was disappointed with Riot Poof and a couple of other songs though it's ok if you are good at improvising. this is a much better book than from the choirgirl hotel, though there is an excellent version of Jackie's Strength in that.

I was pretty happy with the songbook in general. There are a lot of songs and for the price that is marked it's a VERY good deal. The only thing I was disappointed is that the songs in the live section are not the way she plays live at all. Just a reprint from the original versions. As far as the rest, they're very well transcribed. Very good for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Tori book, December 22, 2000
This review is from: Tori Amos: To Venus and Back (Paperback)
Ah, what can I say? Along with Tori, Marilyn Manson and Mozart are my favorite artists... but Tori is starting to really outshine everyone else. There are songs in here that absolutely move me, songs like "Sugar," and then you have songs like Cornflake Girl, which are very danceable.

This book has every song on the CD- incliding live tracks. They are, for the most part, well-transcripted, with the exception of Cornflake Girl's bass lines. This can, however, be corrected with some inprov.

There are full size reproductions of the photos included in the CD, which is nice.

Tori's musical style has changed with this record, incorporating a more electronic, spacey feel. Even still, the emotion is the first thing one notices. Her music is so powerful and outstandingly done that this book has really truly been one of the most enjoyable things I've come across in recent memory.

What can I say? I love her, I love her music. Buy the book, play along with the stereo, enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for "playing Tori", February 16, 2011

This review is from: Tori Amos: To Venus and Back (Paperback)
Lets face it: most everyone who buys Tori's music sheets (or just plain everyone at that!) will never be able to *play Tori*.

With that settled, these music sheet provide a way for the rest of us to play her music, watered down as they may be...! The musics sound close enough to the original, not too hard (but not too easy either thankfully, as I personally think that'd take the fun of learning the music),...

On the negative side I must say I would have liked to see the musics from "still orbiting" rearranged as Tori plays them on the album... too bad they're just the same as their previous albums versions...

A good buy for any hard core Tori fan or just anyone interested in an interesting challenge piano wise...
