I have used it about 10 times and am now going to throw it away before I get hurt using it.

My boyfriend used this cable puller, as per the instructions, to winch a 1500 pound project car (with no engine, so the thing wasn't heavy). The box for this thing says 4 TON/8000 POUNDS all over it but apparently that is a lie. A piece of metal broke suddenly causing the cable to hit him in the arm, injuring him, and the car went sailing down the street, out of control. My boyfriend and his brother had to run after it, luckily it didn't hit anyone.

So yeah. Don't buy this.

Completely non-functional. I've never been able to get the ratcheting system to work. The spring system to push the ratchet against the gear isn't strong enough.

I bought the Big Red cable puller last year. I have used it about 10 times and am now going to throw it away before I get hurt using it. The ratchet assembly does not engage correctly allowing the load to fall unexpectedly. In order to lift with it, you must use you off hand to apply pressure to the ratchet assembly to get it to engage correctly. Even then it will occasionally slip which releases the load. Overall it makes a much better boat anchor than a comealong.

This item was obviously not inspected before shipping. The "dual" rachet pawls were not even parallel. This thing is junk.

It looked like the box had been previously opened. Made me wonder if someone else had already returned it before.

This comealong is badly made. It is difficult to impossible to pull the cable out,( and yes I was holding the release lever off.) . The wheels jam constantly, possibly from unground welds that catch on the insides of the lever handles. The release lever is made of cheap steel and bends in use. Under tension the release lever will bend compleatly over instead of releasing. This this comealong is useless and dangerous. I had to use so much torque to pull the cable out that I damaged my elbow. Do not buy! I used this four times to tighten the sides of a fence and its now going in the garbage.

I purchased a couple dozen of these because they were cheap.......and you get what you pay for. Two of them failed on one job site. The pins are held in with some crummy clips instead of a cotter pin. The can pop off causing the hook on the end without the cable to fall off. On the other side where the cable is connected to the unit the aluminum duplex sleeve came loose. I have called customer service, left messages, no call back. I will not be buying any more of these. Should have stuck with the
Maasdam 2 ton Pow'R Pull and you should to.

It's very difficult to use. The wire rope continually gets tangled on itself and becomes hard to release. Look elsewhere.
