5.0 out of 5 stars Necessary Guide to the Olympic Games, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Torino 2006: A Local's Guide to the Winter Olympics (Paperback)
To say this book has everything is an understatement. I have seen a considerable number of guides that simply highlight the Turin area and provide rather limited information regarding the Olympic Games. Yet this area requires a more thoughtful examination, which is what this guide does. "A Local's Guide" is just that--it is what the locals in Northern Italy will be doing, seeing, and enjoying while visiting the Olympic Games. I've lived in Italy for five years and this is simply the best book I've found on local travel and entertainment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Required reading for any visitor to Turin, September 11, 2005
This review is from: Torino 2006: A Local's Guide to the Winter Olympics (Paperback)
I purchased Torino 2006: A Local's Guide to the Winter Olympics, intending to purchase a pocket guide for my upcoming trip to the Winter Olympics in Turin. I sat captivated, and read nearly the entire book on a rainy Sunday afternoon! This book is informative and concise, yet very comprehensive. It is an easy read, and is written in a light, amusing style. Besides information on the Olympics, the author includes chapters on tourist attractions, regional food and wines, and recommended restaurants. Mr. Sajo also includes an appendix of useful Italian words and phrases. This pocket-sized book is packed with valuable information. I highly recommend it, not only to any visitor to the Olympics, but also to any tourist visiting Turin at any time of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact But Packed with Useful Information, October 12, 2005

Bill Marsano (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Torino 2006: A Local's Guide to the Winter Olympics (Paperback)
By Bill Marsano. This is a handy and informative book for two kinds of people--those who are going to Turin, Italy for the Winetr Olympics and those who are going there some other time for some other reason. I'm just back from Turin (the latest of several visits), so my memory is refreshed enough to say that James Sajo has created an awfully good guide that is compact and easy to use. Olympics fans will appreciate the tight, informative focus on the Games' schedule and the venues within and without the city. And there are excellent tips on how to survive the outdoor venues (bring food and bring, use sunscreen liberally and take something to sit on). Both kinds of visitor will find excellent guidance on hotels, sites, dining and wines. All this in a format that will fit easily in an inside jacket pocket.--Bill Marsano is an award-winning travel writer who travels to Italy several times a year.
