5.0 out of 5 stars A nostalgic and soulful song, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Gran Torino (Original Theme Song From The Motion Picture) (MP3 Download)
This slow, melancholy song is exactly perfect for the end of the movie. I couldn't get up from my seat, but had to sit and watch all of the credits (which I probably would have done anyway for such a great movie) just so I could hear the whole song. I couldn't make out all of the words on the first time through, but I know it's about memories, and longing, some regret, some wistful pleasure in remembering. And it looks like Clint Eastwood helped write the song (and even sings a few bars of it before the credits). Truly a fitting ending for what I regard as his finest film in the latter half of his career. The song stays with you long after you leave the theater, meaning it should (and, I believe, will) stand on its own apart from the film.

When Clint stopped singing and the song started again, I thought for a moment the singer was Michael Buble, not because it sounds terribly like him, but because it is the sort of song a crooner would resurrect from the 50's and sing exactly that way. I was surprised to find it was a new song. Just like the film of the same name, it captures the spirit of a bygone era, with a style unmistakeably new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still with me ..., March 1, 2009
This review is from: Gran Torino (Original Theme Song From The Motion Picture) (MP3 Download)
I saw this movie in January and it is still with me. Although Clint Eastwood is one of our finest living actors, in my opinion, if he never did anything but Gran Torino, what an acting imprint he has left by this project alone. I saw this movie with my sister and her husband on an early Sunday afternoon. The crowd was made up of mostly those over 40 years old. Not to take anything away from younger people, it is my opinion that so many of us 'over 40' folks really connected with how Clint's character was so justly frustrated and fed up with how much our society has changed. When the ending credits began to roll and this beautiful theme song unfolded, most of the audience remained in their seats, numb with emotion and crying silently. A very powerful movie by one of our greatest movie legends which ended with a beautiful, haunting, heart-wrenching theme song.

This is a beautiful song, with lyrics that will stick with you long after the song is over. Perfect end for a wonderful, and moving movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars melancholia, March 18, 2009

Couldn't get this tune out of my head. Sweet, sad and wistful. This evokes past memories and unfulfilled promise. I imagine Walt and Dorothy in their twenties, newly married and parked along the lake, a spring breeze softly blowing. Why did he open himself up & love Dorothy so completely yet unable to connect with the sons of this union? It also makes me think of an old war vet still battling memories he can't share. Sitting at a bar, the smell of beer and whiskey mingling with stale cigarettes. Lost love and lost chances. It brings back a time when I was young and had a Gran Torino in my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jamie Cullum is perhaps the most underrated artist of our time, January 31, 2009
This review is from: Gran Torino (Original Theme Song From The Motion Picture) (MP3 Download)
What a soulful end to a heartfelt movie! Just like the movie, the song leaves you sad and satisfied at the sime time. Jamie Cullum is perhaps one of the most talented artists and songwriters of our generation. Enjoy this song and then buy Twentysomething and tell your friends about the most underrated and unknown artist of this decade.

As others have mentioned, I couldn't leave my seat during the end credits either! This hauntingly beautiful song was the perfect ending to one of the best movies in the last 5 years. I just bought the MP3 on Amazon and I can't stop listening to it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia, January 12, 2009

Saying the movie is about Poles is like saying "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is about Greeks (my mother thought it was). The time comes for each of us when everything we know, love and value from lifestyles to possessions is replaced by something new. Changing some things isn't as easy as changing socks, and certainly not for Walt. The Gran Torino is a reminder of his happier days. Seeing it made me pretty nostalgic too.

The song offers a beautiful send off at the end of the movie and like another reviewer, I sat through the credits to listen. Although another composer gets the credit, I am sure that Clint Eastwood had a hand in it.

This was the perfect lyrical piece composed beautifully, and Jamie Cullum was the perfect voice for the piece.

Paired with the film, this song is truly unforgettable. Five stars all the way.

While you're at it, if you haven't already, do see the movie as well - Gran Torino (Widescreen Edition), so you can fully appreciate the meaning behind this theme song.

What a fabulous film. Even though he's he's an old man now, Clint Eastwood was perfect for the part and acted brilliantly. The story was gripping from start to finish - make sure you have hankies at the ready. This is the first time I have ever let the credits run to the end - just so I could listen to the hauntingly beautiful theme song sung in full at the end by Clint Eastwood and Jamie Cullum. I have been searching the internet to see if it can be bought on CD, with no luck. I am desperate to get it!!! I keep rewinding the movie credts to listen to it over and over again. Top notch movie and song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Choice By Clint Eastwood: Jamie Cullum.. Genius!, January 13, 2009

When watching Golden Globes and saw Jamie Cullum's name attached to this song, I was thrilled and couldn't wait to hear it. Jamie is without question the most talented, energetic, jazz pianist, young performer I've ever seen! I'm telling you, we had the very last row seats at one of his concerts and the energy was off the charts! I applaud Clint Eastwood for choosing him for this project. Can't wait to see the movie. I highly recommend Jamie's live concert DVD 'Twenty Something'. If you appreciate true talent, it is a must see!
